Computer say's i've another 8000 miles for next service. I've done 12500 in it now and i'm getting a little bit worried that the service intervals are so long apart.
Normally i woundn't be bothered about it but i'm kind of falling in love with this car.
I've never kept a car longer than a year but this could be the first car i'll keep for 3 years.

It just does everything so bloody well !

I now do 500 miles on a tank , it's as fast as an M3 , the ride is comfortable and it's a sporty drive for what's a heavy diesel estate.

I do have to change the rear tyre's now though but with all that torque i'm not surprised.

Got me thinking what would i replace it with ?

Was thinking a used X5 in a few years with a 3.5D engine in it or maybe another 535D if they sort the ride out ?

It's the engine, which i think in this day and age is best suited for our uk roads. Audi's - Merc diesels just don't seem to have the go that a DMS 3.5 can offer so it's seem's that aslong as the car is reliable i will be back to BMW.

I'm not starting a poll ( for obvious reasons ) but this is how i rate my 335D DMS Touring after 6 months and 12500 miles!

Interior Space 3/5 ( talking more about boot space here)
Exterior Style 3.5/5 ( it's growing on me )
Fuel Consuption 5/5 ( it's no right to do 500 miles to a tank with this level of performance )


Overall i would give this car 4.5/5 . I've owned loads of car's but this is without a shadow of doubt the best allrounder i've owned!

Good to hear that someone is so happy with all the problems of late with members' cars.

Hope my next steed will have the last 2 numbers ending in "35" too.

I'm glad that there's someone in love with their car too. The thing we all have to remember is that we will post most about problems with our cars, rather than the good things with them. The vast majority of people here love their cars and enjoy their experience... I do too, when my car works!

I don't want to come across and seem all negative about everything regarding my car - I do love it, just not in its current state!

Well I've now got approx 1000 mls on my beast and every time I drive it,I get blown away.
The initial bad experience is just a distant memory and I'm really enjoying the pleasure of the 335D now.

The power is awesome,does any one else wonder about the braking capabilities of the car?
I've nearly come unstuck on several occasions to date,could be a question of getting used to the power I guess.

Lovin the cruise control,so much better then the steering wheel buttons of the E46.

The wife is constantly thanking the imaginary slave in the back seat, who passes her the seat belt every time she gets in the car,eventually it will dawn on her!

Sorry to hear of your continuing woes E92, I know what you're going through,but based on my own experiences,it will come good in the end.

God I'm glad the problems of your car are done and dusted. Sounds like you've been driving a fair bit!! I had a bit of a worry about the brakes initially, as I found them a bit 'soft' when pushing on. You will probably find that you are a bit heavier on the brakes than normal as the urge to 'play' is irresistible! Oh, and if you're on a high-speed run you may find the brakes fade a bit too quickly. Because of the amount of time I'm in Europe, I decided to change the brake pads on my car to EBC Green - initial bite is a lot better and more confidence-inspiring, and it doesn't fade anywhere near as much as it used to. When the time comes, I'll change the discs as well for some higher-peformance grooved versions

Interesting that Hotcoupe and Tony have both commented on the brakes. I too find under sustained heavy braking they can feel a bit vague although in virtually an identical way as my E90 M sport used to feel. Presuambly then because the discs are by this point 'warm' shall we say and so is the brake fluid, does this impede the braking efficiency or make it appear that way. I think there is something in the fact as well of the velocities that one can reach easily in this car braking may need to be considered that bit sooner, journey home from work on Friday springs to mind!

Interesting point on the EBC brake pads though. Used to know a bloke in Manchester who was a professional engine tuner for drag bikes and cars. He swore by EBC pads for both road and track use stating that the pads have a higher metallic content therefore are better at resisting brake fade from overheating. He also stated that a brake disc with a more porous surface would perform better at higher temperatures (Brembos for instance). Tried his recommendations on a motorbike he had tuned for me and the results were a definate improvement.

Yes, I know what you mean. I've almost done 16K miles and the OBC is saying Oil Service isn't due for another 9,000 miles ... which seems a long time to run on the original factory oil. Had a similar challenge in my previous 530d - it was 2 yrs old and the dealer wouldn't change the oil because the computer didn't say it needed doing.

I also agree that the 335d is a great all-rounder. It's a very good blend of performance and economy, also very easy to drive everyday. I have been surprised that the Coupe is quite practical too - the boot's a decent size and folding rear seats as standard. What to get next? Good question - another one probably, though the runflats (and no space for a spare) still niggle me.

I'm sorry to hear about some of the early failures some forum members have experienced. Maybe I'm just lucky, but the car hasn't been back to the $tealer yet - almost a year and 16K trouble-free miles. Oh, I did go to the local BMW franchise to buy some oil for topping-up, but that's it.

I was also a bit twitchy about the OBC telling me next servive is in 11/08. That's 2 years after buying it.

I was reassured by my Dealer that 2 years is fine on the original oil.

I remember when servicing new cars we changed the oil after the first 1k miles. And also on rebuilt engines.

The Dealer quoted c. £200 for a simple oil change - made me a bit white around the gills though so have left it for now ! I remember buying a can of good oil for less than a tenner. Times have changed.

Tony, I hope you didn't think that I was saying "bloody hell, everyone's just moaning about their cars etc etc".. Not what I meant at all. I meant that there are seem to be lots of probs with members' cars at the moment, yours especially. And don't worry you don't come across negatively (though you would be justified in doing so!); you are a lot more positive than I'd be in your situation! Hope the new week brings progress.

Hi HC, thats funny that you think the brakes are not upto much. I have found.. especially when she was a brand spanker, that the brakes matched the performance of the engine, i was staggered at how well she pulled up

i once used red stuff pads, and they were onyl good for track, never got warm enough on the road and were dangerous

Thanks fella. I didn't take it to mean that everybody was moaning. I am well aware that the majority of posts are due to problems or difficulties owners are experiencing, and I am no stranger to that. I hope this week brings better news too, although I am not so optimistic given that the BMWUK tech won't get onsite till Thursday.. fingers and toes crossed!

Well of course they were dangerous - they're not designed for road use! Or even fast road use! Greens are perfectly fine, with extra bite and no squeal. And the higher metallic content in the Green pad reduces gassing and brake fade, so is perfect for higher-speed motorway runs. Not expensive either to replace

Send SerJames a PM - he'll tell you where to get oil from and also where to get the oil change done (Birds/Hartge in Uxbridge near Heathrow). He had the oil filter replaced as well, supplied his own oil, and got charged I think 30-odd quid all in... his dealer was quoting him the best part of £160 for an oil change!!!!!!!
