Brake Fluid Change Interval
Should the brake fluid in a 2006 330i be changed on a regular time interval, regardless of mileage? My car is approaching 4 yrs (29k miles), and as far as I know, the brake fluid has never been changed. Maintenance records dont reflect it. Would this requested maintenance be covered under the 4/50k maintenance program?

Then they should do it for him for free. It really should be done every 2 years.

BMW used to recommend one-year brake fluid changes (now every two as calculated on OBC). Mike Miller recommends once a year in his "alternative maintenance schedule." You should be fine with every two years though - especially since BMW covers the cost. Independent shops don't charge much for brake flushes. I like to follow Mike's guide.

Thanks, bud - you're correct. I should have mentioned that. I quickly found that link on Google. I have the latest PDF saved at home.

Just read Tech Talk in the Nov '09 Roundel. Pg 104 Brake-Fluid Changes response by Mike Miller:
I'd actually prefer to see them done once a year (as BMW use to recommend before they started paying for it during the warranty period), but I'll settle for every two years as long as the car isn't going to the race track. Two years, however, is the max if you want a well maintained car. Brake fluid is hygroscopic in the garage or out of the garage, no matter how many other cars are parked in the garage. It will draw moisture from the air into the hydraulic system. That water does two things: First, it reduces the hydraulic effectiveness of the brake fluid as well as reducing its boiling point. Second, it causes corrosion of expensive BMW hydraulic parts like brake-caliper pistons, the master-cylinder piston, and the pistons in the clutch slave and master cylinders. As always, spot on.
