2010 IDrive - PDC problems

I'm about 3 weeks into my 2010 335i MSport with auto tranny and PDC (park distance control). Noticed that when I start the car and put it in reverse (not hitting AGREE to the legal disclaimers) about 50% of the time the PDC screen will not appear, no matter how long I wait. If I shift back into park then reverse again, it will usually work.

Anyone else experience this? Seems like a software bug...

I get that, too, even with recent software. I have to AGREE first to see the PDC. But...I think you can force the PDC to appear if you press the PDC button.

you indeed can force the PDC screen to appear by pressing the button, but this should not be needed. In my car the PDC screen always switches on when putting the car in reverse. I only use the button if I go into a parking lot driving forwards.

I get the PDC screen instantly when I hit reverse - whether or not the nag screen has triggered. So, what you are describing is probably not usual behavior.

I don't think I have that issue, but I will let the nag screen disappear on its own and check when I back out after work today.

I have not seen a PDC button on my 2010. Even on my old '08, since I did not have heated seats, I did not have the control panel where the button would be, so there was no button on that car either (despite having PDC). I've always had to control it though iDrive.

You don't have the button for PDC since you only have the rear PDC. As Kilgore has said, your car may seem to have a problem as mine works just like Kilgore's.

No front PDC on a 2010??
It may depend on how fast you back up after first turning on the power. I can back up w/o seeing the PDC screen right away in some cases. The beep is activated instantly, though.

The M-sport package only comes with rear.

The PDC came up for me no matter how I tried it, but as indicated, I only have rear.

The weird thing is sometimes I get the legal disclaimer screen TWICE. I actually have to hit AGREE twice. Not all the times, but sometimes.

My car is a 10/09 build so maybe they have some new software glitches they introduced? Is there anyway to see the software revision?

BTW, I noticed that when the PDC screen doesn't appear, the audio does work. So, its just that the IDrive isn't switching the video over.

Agreeing to the disclaimer should have nothing to do with PDC. My PDC graphic comes up before the disclaimer. The disclaimer then pops up when I start moving fast enough for the PDC screen to disapear, and then I never have to hit "agree" button - it just goes away a few seconds later.

So you start the car throw it in reverse and the PDC screen shows 100% of the time? If so they must have made software revisions and screwed it up!

I'll send am email to my SA and let him know. Maybe they can inquire with NA. I have a good relationship with my SA.

It may be about timing. Like you said, try a quick draw test. Key in slot, foot on brake, push button, throw reverse. Per responsiveness, since my update the VC button won't respond for a while after starting up. Maybe software is causing delays.

Yes, this is exactly what happens.

And, btw, they reflashed my car a few weeks ago. So, I have the latest software.

OK, Thanks. I'll have to get to the bottom of this. Not priority and I don't plan to take the car in for service just for that. I'll report back when I do. Just a thought but I suspect the IDrive software for 2010 is somewhat different. The radio section is different with HD being standard.

HD was standard in 2009 too (if you purchased Idrive).

Aight, I did the quick draw test. I rarely see a PDC screen delay, but I do get a dealy when I put it in R beore iDrive boots up (after system is fully off). Of course! You do have to act fast to drive off b4 LCI iDrive boots and I think that scenario is rarely encountered.

I watched carefully over the last few days, and mine also works properly as Kilgore describes. 2009 E90.

So far I've found the IDrive is not consistent with booting up. It depends on the last screen and function I left it on when I turned the car off. Sometimes it boots quickly and other times I get a BMW screen for a few seconds and/or delay before it boots. I haven't had a chance to get scientific with this to see if can figure out a pattern. Something isn't exactly right here...

Try putting it in reverse b4 iDrive even boots up...then you'll see a delay...but you would expect one then.
