Pausing a CD

This may sound like a really dumb question...but I'm a bit stuck. Is there any way to actually pause a CD (Sat Nav with iDrive).

Planning on spending some time in Italy late summer, so figured I'd spend some of my daily driving time learning the lingo with some helpful language CDs. Can't work out how to actually pause them with this system though (kind of essential to give my slow-mo brain time to generate something other than poor english).

Just can't work out how to do it...

Hmm, you can press the button that controls the volume on the center console.

...but doesn't that just switch the radio off? It is something I wish I could do especially when taking phone calls

What's the difference? Just switch it on and off, it's instantaneous.

The OP asked about a pause function not 'off'!

Calm down.

Pressing the volume button on the head unit is the 'mute' function for all audio, it:

1. mutes the radio audio (doesn't 'turn off' the head unit, just mutes it)
2. mutes / pauses the CD, if you are listening to one
3. mutes / pauses USB MP3 audio if you have it

easy

You're lucky bob!

The LCI cars have got rid of the programmable steering wheel buttons and fixed them as, unbelievably, nav-voice on/off and f##king auto air recirculate on/off!!!!

Germans eh? good at some stuff, rubbish at others!

How do you reprogram a button? I'd love to change air recirculate on/off on my 06 non i-Drive to something less useless if possible?

Yep,

the old 'star' and 'diamond' buttons are gone, replace with fixed nav voice and air recirc symbols.

shit idea IMO.

Can they only be re-programmed via I-Drive?

My mistake, its not nav voice, but audio source selection which is now fixed on the LCI models.

still shit.
