Garage List
2009 335i 6MT, stock N54

SoCal commute (about 80% city 20% variable highway speed, climbing 1000 ft hill twice a day):

19.0 mpg if I drive like granny and short shift...
18.0 mpg normally
17.5 mpg if I'm having a bit of fun

It won't drop below 17.5 unless I'm either having a lot of fun, or driving in a lot of slow creeping bumper-to-bumper traffic.
(NOTE: on 91 AKI gas with 6% ethanol)

Highway (on mixed 93 AKI gas, 6% ethanol):
26-29 mpg depending on speed and road conditions

I get about 22 mpg, it's fairly consistent from tank to tank.

while being on the mileage discussion... will swapping out the downpipes for a catless set bump up mileage (less exhaust restrictions, engine doesnt have to work as hard...) ?

Shell gas 93, 36k 2009 335i, extremely poor gas mileage. My average is showing 22mpg, but Im getting just over 100 miles to the tank. I dont drive really aggressively, my highway isn't too bad, around 340 to the tank. Last 2 trips from N.O to Galviston have taken 3/4 a full tank. Not even sure what to look for, I just assumed it was the realtime 6mpg during even the most mundane acceleration...

Something wrong. I consider my driving extreme case - mostly NYC traffic jams and I am rarely get out of the third gear - and my numbers are around 15 mpg in the city, and when I mixed in the highway it is seldom I get into low twenties.

Yea, based on what i've been reading, something must be wrong. Being my first bmw, im still getting used to a lot. I think the first move is to reset the trip mileage and consumption indicators, fill the tank, and get some solid numbers. Then I guess its off to the stealership for an inspection and estimate.

My my e90 335i I average 18 MPG in the city and around 30 MPG on the highway. This includes a tune and probably 10 over the speed limit. Something to note: I used my ski rack this winter with my skis and poles and I lost approximately 25% in MPGs. Granted the aerodynamics are greatly affected, 25% is a significant amount. I averaged around 22 MPG highway with the skis on.

80/20 hwy/city in the cold winter weather I've been averaging about 22 mpg. It seems like this car takes forever for the n55 to warm up to full operating temps in the cold weather....I'm expecting mileage to go up a bit as the weather warms.

Point of clarification: I reset the trip fuel mileage after each fill up. This is not my long term fuel mileage, just what each tank seems to settle on with my driving habits.

Around 24-25mpg average with 30% city and 70% highway on the 335. Its high octane or no octane for me. I have seen what impure gas does to forced induction engines and never ever again!!
