My RAC warranty was £299 for a year - but this was bought with the car so it may be more if buying direct? Worth it though in this case!

D'oh! DSC light just came on (along with the circled yellow exclamation bit)!

Mine is E90 320i ES, 2006 with 39k on the clock.

ABS seems to be working properly. Does that help my case ?

How likely is it that am I looking at £1,700 bill as well?

I have AA warranty, but it coveres up to £1,000 per claim... and I thought that should be enough .

With your age/mileage BMW may make a goodwill gesture (if it's out of warranty?) although as soon as I mentioned I had a warranty, BMW were quick to point out that a goodwill gesture wouldn't be offered.... ABS is unrelated I'm afraid. Good luck!

It ran out of manufacturer warranty in April. I still have AA one though.

I booked the car in Monday. Will practice my sad puppy face until then, hoping to entice them to do a goodwill gesture

My traction control and hand brake warning lights came on FOUR DAYS after warranty ran out.
Got car plugged in at BMW Derby was told new unit was £1250 plus approx £400 labour!!
Was offered repair as a goodwill gesture and will "only" have to pay £220 - snapped their hands off..
3 year old car with 23K on the clock also had new steering column, problems with central locking and an oil leak after driving 200 miles in one day.
"The ultimate driving machine" -NOT!!!

Dealer quoted me £1925 inc vat

BUT, when I called them back later they offered goodwill gesture: I only need to pay £175

Dealer is Stephen James BMW in Sidcup. This was very nice of them, since I didn't buy my car from them, nor serviced it there.

Good news - perhaps they're aware of the issue and don't want it becoming a seemingly common expensive repair...

Dropped mne off this morning, Courtesy car is 320i M Sport Convertible!!!!

They did one last week and BMW covered 100% on parts and 80% on labour so might stand me at £200ish.

This is obviously a problem they are aware of.

Bloody hell Rob that's a bit harsh from both sides.

Not al lot you can do about it, imo.

I guess BMW are saying the car is too old and the warranty company are saying it is not a covered part? Bloody typical.

Rob, where was the car from? Will BMW not cover the part as you have a warranty? I've PMed you what details I have, and I'll find out some more tomorrow.

I've just had a DSC unit failure on my 2006 E90 320i, which has less than 10,000 miles on the clock. BMW have agreed to pay for the part but I've been charged £245 labour.

I really hope this isn't a sign I've bought a terminally unreliable car.

i had mine changed under warenty about 4 months ago, just recently i have noticed oil like marks on my drive, checked and its comming from drivers side just before the back wheel about 30cm or so, is this were the hydro unit is?

if so looks like its not fitted correctly, how long do dealers guarantee replacement parts?

phil

Jesus christ, is there not something in the sale of goods act about warranties having to be honoured for a reasonable amount of time which relates to the original cost of the product and it's use/lifetime etc.

So if you bought a fridge it would be reasonable to expect it to lsat a good 10 years at minimum (my folks have a fridge that's over 15 years old and it's still going strong).

In the case of a car, which cost tens of thousands of pounds and would be expected to cover well over 100,000 miles during it's lifetime I would expect the warranty to reflect that!! Failures at sub 50,000 miles are unacceptable...hell I think anything like this failing at less than 100,000 miles is out of order, especially when they cost over £1,500 to set right.

Stories like this might put me off buying an E92...

The pump in question on this thread is in the engine bay, drivers side near the windscreen.

I agree, although white goods like fridges are generally held to have a 'normal' life of around 5 years.

These failures are premature, hence the 'goodwill' gestures by BMW.

That's just ri-god-damn-dicolous. Who do you know that has to to replace their white goods on a 5-yearly cycle? That'd be insane!!

As you say, the fact that BMW are giving goodwill on these failures suggests they accept the fact that they are well premature...that being the case I think they should also goodwill the bloody labour...

This sort of thing is seriously putting me off getting an E92...maybe I'll get a Kia with a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty!!

Hi

We purchased a bmw 1 series 118d, 2006 plate with 60k miles on clock about 2 months ago, which is 3 months out of warranty.

The DSC light came on the dash.

It went into BMW today for the diagnostic check which cost £69.

They confirmed unit had gone.

The report said " DSC COMPLETE UNIT REQUIRED £1830.16 inc program goodwill recieved cost to customer £406 all inc as bmw will give 100% parts, valid till 12/11/09"

My question is should we pay the £406, or should we contact BMW main customer services to try and meet them halfway with the labour costs as most people have done???

How long does it take to change the unit??? If it takes one hour, that means they charge £406 per hour.

Your thoughts would be appreciated

cheers guys

God, not another one!

100% parts and £400 labour? I think with 60k recorded and you being the second owner (??) I think that's fair.
