Ford F-150 to offer a V6 diesel engine, could arrive by 2018.

Quote:
Ford's group vice president of global product development recently downplayed the possibility of a F-150 diesel but that could soon be changing.

According to The Truth About Cars, the success of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has pushed Ford to develop a new 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine codenamed "Lion." There's no word on specifications but it is expected to be offered in the F-150 by 2018.

Around this time, we can also expect to see the next-generation Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. Little is known about the models but they are expected to feature aluminum bodies and a a ten-speed automatic transmission.

Interestingly, the report says the next-generation F-Series Heavy Duty will eschew the weight saving aluminum and use steel compoents instead.
10 speed autos?

Seen this. A day late and a dollar short. Ive wanted a smaller diesel truck for sometime but they never came. I've had 3 f250s but always end up getting rid of them, they are just to large for my needs. Maybe I'll be ready for a new car by the time these evershow up, that is IF they ever show up.

Makes perfect sense, but for now they should just buy a diesel engine from another manufacturer until they had their own -- like when MB was putting Peugeot diesels in their cars.

Last time they did that, it didn't turn out well. Remember the 6.0?

All the Power Strokes were Navistar designed except for the new 6.7L which is an in-house Ford design and Ford built.

Chevy is going to offer the re-released Colorado with 4cyl diesel in 2016. 190ish HP and 370ish TQ.

Dodge has their EcoDiesel in their 1500 RAM and Nissan is going to offer a 5.0L V8 Cummins in their Titan half ton truck in about a year.

You are right Ford has been using Navistar for Ford over 20 years. It's funny how the internet can make something into such a big deal. Me personally, I like the 6.0 motor and if you did a few things like EGR delete, head Studs, and coolant filter, you could make lots of reliable power.

Anyways back to topic, I read that the 1500 diesel is selling very well. It also is motor trends truck of the year. I had a Dodge once and def prefer a Ford. I think a strong motor in the ford would be best, but I would hope they put one in there that will best the Eco boost motor.
