I've seen a few Dyno Tests with Induction Kits and they don't make any difference to the performance, it's only the sound you get.

I've heard about that it sometimes doesn't improve performance . Other than remap wanting a bit more horsepower. Exhausts been done already.

The gain you'll get (if any) will hardly be noticeable!
What is noticeable is how cars can stall in hot weather due to the filter sucking in all that lovely hot air from under the bonnet when in traffic or at junctions

Utterly pointless mod IMO.
All the ram air nonsense too, why pay silly money for a box to put a filter in to keep hot air out when your car has already got one!
Just stick a decent panel filter in if you must.

This is the engine bay from my old S4, running 500bhp with no induction kit in sight
Save your money for something worthwhile

Haha that says enough to me then if that was running 500bhp. So a basic £40er filter will be ok? Am bored just want to go out and buy something for car ha! What else could I do other than a remap to get a few cheeky horses?

A panel filter won't make any noticeable difference either unless you really need one!
Just adding a filter really isn't going to get you any extra power thats worthwhile.
My S4 ran a panel filter simply to flow a bit more air than the stock one.
There is very little you can do to an NA car to get more power unless you start spending big money, and even then the ratio of BHP to £ is really really bad.

Yeah, you can change the filter, fit an exhaust, change the manifolds and get a remap for what, literally thousands of pounds? What would that get you, 50bhp at best?
Stick the money in the bank and save it towards something fast in the first place is the sensible answer

You'd get enjoyment out of your 40 quid if you put it in the tank and went for a blast on some decent roads!

Good service that's what you need ,then clean your injectors , check and replace eccentric shaft sensor if needed (99% you do ) , reset throttle and it will be come different car .

I own 325i (n52 engine) too and done it above , car feels much more responsive and abit quicker .

You can find more about the sensor http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=697252

Very true mate ive looked all round Yorkshire at remap companies and literally best they can say is 16bhp. I'd rather lose 3 stone see if that makes car go faster! I look every day at e46 m3 so tempted but worried about buying one has it been thrashed all its life not looked after properly. Have you had one before?

I nearly got one, but decided against it because I knew I would get bored of the power very quickly and want to upgrade it.
Again, as its NA you can't really do much to it.
If you want power upgrades you need something with a turbo ideally

Done most of that mate as soon as I got it. It had the same spark plugs in from new. 102,000 it had on it when I realised they where factory fitted ones. really bad guy who changed them laughed said it's worse he had ever seen they Wa foooked, that felt like a new car when I changed them then it wore off lol. What years yours?

What would you look for when getting a e46 m3? Ye turbos prob seem the way to go but can only afford what my cars worth 6,500 at a push. Saving for a house so missus ain't having me dip into savings . What BHP yours running at the moment?

E46 I'd be wanting the boot floor checked or only buy one that had any cracks fixed.
Mine is stock at the mo but is being mapped on Monday!

For 6.5k if I wanted a car with decent power I'd get another B5 S4 with K04 conversion already done. Depending on spec it would be 400-500bhp

Here you go, it had tons of mods but mostly performance related.
The graph is from before the FMIC was fitted which then took it to 500bhp

You'd be better off looking at enthusiast owned ones on audisrs.com forum.
I wouldn't touch a standard one from a garage/private seller with a barge pole!
