Got Laser Interceptor installed!

So yesterday I got the BMW edition laser interceptors installed. I'm running it with a direct wired Redline radar detector.

With the blacked out grill it looks really good - plus the extra protection you get from laser. I'd recommend it to you guys!

Anyone else running this setup?

Don't laser interceptors just let you know that you're about to pulled over?

Nope, they actually block the laser signal and jam the laser gun. Then when you've slowed down enough, you turn it off with a switch and the laser gun gets a read on your now (slower) speed.

It's legal in most states, you'd just have to check if it is in yours.

Does it also work on radar guns, or would one have to purchase that separately?

I guess the point is moot for me. I just checked and such devices are illegal in California.

Not on radar guns, I think radar gun jammers are illegal anyway. Only laser ones are permitted.

For radar, the only thing you can really do is to have a radar detector to detect it.

Radar detectors are allowed in all states but Virginia, apparently.

cops used to pull me over in my previous car not for a radar detector but for obstruction of view by it being on my windshield.

still sucked either way for me

Very nice! If you don't mine me asking, where'd you get them installed? You can PM me if you want.

Also, thanks for letting me know that LI made a BMW version of their jammers. Was hesitant to get it because I had to cut the grille for it to work optimally.

So I assume it's always on until you turn it off and the cop reads your lower speed? Also, can't you just leave it on and he'll never pick up the speed?

Jamming radar is federally illegal because it is regulated by the FCC

Jamming laser is not federal, it is regulated by the FDA (laser light spectrum)

Yeah i believe thats called a JTG (jam to gun). sometimes the laser guns can punch through at shorter distances from not enough coverage as the vehicle moves closer. so its best not to JTG but sometimes you can do it but why risk it? a full JTG may set off a red flag for the officer.

funny thing about laser, you usually can see the LEO shooting it before he tags you. sometimes you can't but i find most times if you are aware, you can avoid it by being alert/

Hey guys, it comes with an on/off switch that you can install anywhere in the cabin.

I got it installed and tested. The guy who did the install is really good - he knows everything about the laser and radar guns that are used. He'll drive in NJ/NY, etc. He has a 335i as well. He will test it for you too.

If you guys are interested shoot me a PM and I can give you his contact info.

As for the install, the heads just mount vertically in between the grill: no cutting needed. It's a pretty clean install.

I'm running an LI Dual with a Valentine 1.

The heads are supposed to be mounted horizontally. They did a series of tests on BMWs with heads mounted both ways and vertical performance was significantly reduced.

The normal heads are supposed to be mounted horizontally, but the "BMW Edition" heads were engineered to be mounted vertically, and as long as it is installed correctly, I have not read or heard of any performance issues.

The diode is made so that vertical mounting is OK.

Dude, I'm not sure where you're getting your info but there are no specific versions. I'm in touch with Cliff (The US Retailer) on a regular basis, as I've been with LI since their initial US release. There are no "BMW Edition" or alternate versions. They are not supposed to be mounted vertically for optimal performance.

It just recently came out, they are made specifically to vertically mount on places such as a BMW grill. Here is direct link to Cliff's site, if you scroll down you'll read the new BMW edition as they call it.
