Would they even replace it if you were still in warranty?

Some people have had wheels replaced.

They check to see the wheel is not too far out of the round indicating a large impact, before putting your case forward to BMW.

Works for some but not others.

Garage List
How old is the wheel in question?

Goods should last a reasonable amount of time.

And if u asked anyone, how long will alloy wheels suppose to last? What do u think the answers going to be? Probably a lifetime well the lifetime of the car anyway! So technicaly the alloy was not fit for purpose!

I think you will struggle.

Sadly alloy wheels are broken all the time no matter who made them. I've cracked a few 17s and it only gets worse the bigger you get.

Some of the BMW wheels do have a bad reputation, but after 3.5 years it will be hard to prove a manufacturing defect is to blame.

I asked this on the big thread but got nothing -

Having read it all and read various online reports it was my understanding that after Watchdog, BMW's comms bloke came out and said that they would investigate and in the meantime they would replace any alloys that didn't show obvious visual damage, the inspection would not include any testing - I'm not sure how people have been refused or fed a different line if that is the one from BMW? Unless there was a subsequent one that I have missed?

i had the same, my local dealer wanted to sell me 2 new rims, they then said they would do a run out test on the cracked rims (at a charge) and if they were within bmw tolerance, they might be able to get a "good will gesture" from bmw, they wouldnt say if this meant the total cost of the rims or not. I decided to just buy a new set of rims and no runflats. IMHO the oem rims are crap and not upto the job and the runflats are over priced and give a rubbish ride.
You can try your dealer but dont hold out too much hope, they will try to wriggle out of it.

Well the dealer gave me a "transplant wheel" lol for the time being and will check if bmw will give me a new wheel as a good gesture! So hopefully get a phone call today and see what they have to say!

If it is Bavarian, push hard and you will receive! Being only one of two main dealers in Belfast, Antrim and Down, means they are keen to keep folks happy. I've been very surprised with them, in a good way.

I have free access to X-Ray (realtime) radiography in my company.

I would be curious to have one of my level4 PCN experts analyse the cracked material.

Anyone have scrap alloys? Im in Somerset, and the facilities are in Worcester.
