so at the end of march early april i am coming into a good amount of money, about 3k. I am torn between suspension set ups. kw variant 3 or the bilstein pss9/10. I have been out of the tuning game for about 6 years now and was a japanese car guy before. so basically which do you think is better and do any of you have experience with either? thanks for your advice and input.

There are far better options than KWV3 or Bilstein coilovers. What is your primary goal? Do you want to lower your car while focusing on comfort? Do you want the best performance? Give us a little more info.

Its a daily driver and I drive about 45 minutes to and from work. I enjoy a stiff aggressive ride for when I get onto some back roads and get on it but still want to be able to have drive-ability. It will be sitting on 19x9 as well but i still have not decided on a tire. I also want to be able to take it to track days. btw its a 06 sedan manual trans 325i sport package

Look into the AST 4100 coilovers with Swift springs from HP Autowerks. The AST coilovers are definitely geared towards performance (even more so with the linear springs), but you can DD them, no problem depending on the spring rates that you choose. There are a lot of different spring rates so you can tailor the coilovers to your specific needs. The AST 4100s are a little over $2000

On top of that, I would look into adding some more negative camber in the front which can drastically improve the handling characteristics of our cars. This can be achieved through adjustable camber plates (~$500), fixed camber plates (~ $200 from Dinan), M3 LCAs (lower control arms - ~$300), or a combination of camber plates and LCAs. There are other M3 suspension bits that you can add, but I don't think they will provide as much feedback as the LCAs and should be added after the LCAa, or if you have they money, at the same time, but not before (jmo).

Other than that, you can add the M3 rear subframe bushings, stiffer sway bars, etc... but at that point, you're walking a fine line of making the car too stiff and without an LSD ($$$$), that's not something that you want.

I would (and probably will) go with Koni FSD shocks, Eibach springs, adjustable camber plates, M3 front control arms (all of them) and rear links, and UUC sway bars. Koni/Eibach combo is quite compliant with poor road conditions, but will still perform well on a track.

Since your car is 6+ years old, the control arms will make even more difference than usual, due to the age of your current bushings. With the right tire choice, it will grip like velcro.

Dont forget about the brakes!

Now yer talkin'. I have Yellows + linear Eibach's and can give 'em a thumbs up for daily driving. Much more comfortable than stock.

I installed this package - well known for performance. HP Autowerks solution should work as well.

Did a number of other easily available suspension mods - superb. Don't track - just wanted my ride t'perform. Yup!

TC Kline has solid options in your price range, the damping is very good. TCK uses Koni dampers but re-valves them. Here's the single adjustable kit:

TC Kline is what VAC Motorsports recommended for me initially. Then I decided to go up-market with the more pricey JRZ RS1 plus ACS springs.
