Wow, what a thread. I just finished reading all of it. 12 pages. One thing that came up in my mind:

At what miles should we change our serpentene belts, to prevent from claustrophobic engine failure?

Update for you guys. The first engine failed to start. We got a full refund for the engine and labor. Bought a roll over car with a 31000 mile engine for $6200. The car was warranted to be in running condition and is supposed to arrive at the shop on Monday (it has taken forever it seems for it to arrive). If everything works out this time the car is supposed to be ready by next weekend. So far its been 2 and half months without my car.

I can't believe I read 12 pages of this.
So you bought an entire car? Once you swap the motor what are you going to do with the rest of the car? Hopefully the shop will keep it and cut you a deal. But, did you buy the rollover car or did the shop? I ask because if you did it, then the shop can charge you both ways in removal and install.
Also, you've been over 2months dealing with this crap but you didn't want to spend the time on speaking with an Attorney? This 1 step could've saved you thousands.

Buy a used one, or just push your car off a cliff and buy a new car. Seriously, tell your dealer to F off

Finally, you didn't answer my question: were your parents also immoral assholes who taught you to be the same, or did you pick that up on your own?
You are working on the assumption that morals exist

Gee thanks for resurrecting this thread! I just read the whole thing!

Really, really stupid. Oh, and very suspicious. Why didn't OP pursue the warranty in service date, or the attorney? Why did OP drive with a severely cracked/broken valve cover? How does the valve cover even get broken like that? Insane. Simply insane.

I mean, how do you say to yourself "wow, those conversations with an attorney or BMW NA are likely to take several minutes! I'll just go without my car for several months, have it towed all around, and eventually pay $8000 to get it fixed instead. Yea, that's better."

Something very fishy here.

Fuk op, driving with no oil, and driving for 25k miles, god knows how many were without oil, why not just buy a quart of oil and put it in, at least that.

Do BMWs not warn you when you are low on oil? My Mercedes C32 had a slow oil leak and no dipstick; when the oil got to the low end of the acceptable range it would announce the fact in the DIC and instruct me to add oil. How could the OP's engine lose enough oil to cause catastrophic loss of lubrication without setting off a warning message or something?
