Really? That amazes me!

The 35i unit, despite some issues, does seem to be very well regarded indeed.

The V8 is good, but to enjoy it properly you're well into license losing territory and it's not as smooth as the Straight six, well mine isn’t

With the 335i, when you planted your right foot, you felt a creamy smooth rush of power. In the M3 it’s much more of a rawness, you feel vibes through the controls and it’s very metallic sounding

Creepy - I reckon the M3 delivery would have been ideal when I was under 30. Now I'm a lazy old (35) bugger and love easy torque.

The 335i and M3 are the same torque output aren't they? I suspect the 335i has more accessible twist though?

TBH I don't lust after hign revving N/A engines any more - I guess I'm not enough of a purist?! Given the choice of a 911 GT3 RS or 911 Turbo S for example, I'd have the latter every time.

The Torque from the 335i is slightly more accessible, but the M3 isn't exactly lacking in grunt and will pull high gears, at slow road speeds for most driving situations.
Having said that, the 335i does have the edge low down. A debate that will go on and on.
I really think if the next generation M3 has a straight six turbo charge power plant and the fantastic chassis the E92 has, it will be without doubt the best ever M3.

I read it back without the edit and it was still fairly obvious I meant "the same torque." I just changed it to make is EVEN CLEARER

Anyway I said "the M3 and the 335i are the same aren't they?" Did I say the same engine? No

I suspect the 320i driver was pi55ed off he bought BMWs lemon engine when the plan was to raise his social status with a "sports saloon."
I agree that it does get a very bad press but my engine has been flawless. It hasn't got a lot of torque but it's almost completely silent and not a bad car to drive. ( As long as you don't try to beat a Honda FR-V from the lights ) In BMW terms it's sh*t but compared to most other manufacturer's saloons it's a pretty quick car.

Would I buy another one? Probably not, I'm going to get a 330d next or something similar.

We're all friends here despite the occasional kerfuffle.

No doubt somebody (or everybody) will come on and say "I'm not you friend you hippy tw*t"
