Thanks for explaining.

So, 1) I take it you didn't want a $1000 warranty you mean?

2) Forgive me if I should know this... I didn't see it referenced in your post, and from what I recall, Dinan claims the crank numbers are supposed to be 384 hp and 421 lb/ft torque.

Do you know what stage 2 ESS numbers would be comparatively, at crank? Or even better, at the wheel? A local user dyno'd around 320 WHP / 360 Wtorque on a Mustang with a Dinan, which at 15% loss, would seem to match their crank numbers claimed.

all crank numbers (see: http://www.esstuning.com/default.asp...ubcat2=267&id=:

ESS stage 1: 355 hp / 480 Nm torque
ESS stage 2: 380 hp / 520 Nm torque
ESS stage 3: 400 hp / 550 Nm torque (better intercooler required)

You will get even more hp / torque by adding downpipes, DCI etc. as the software adapts to these mods. Stage 4 should be somewhat above stage 3, but I think there are no "official" numbers available yet.

Thanks. So it sounds like their stage 2 is comparable to Dinan's... Torque's lower though by about 30 ft-lbs. So I guess then the question becomes for a potential customer whether the extra $1,000 US for the Dinan warranty & dealer network is worth it? Right?

Anything else one would consider?

I have chosen ESS because they have developed their tune in Europe, and have tested it extensively on German motorways (no speed limit) and the Nurburgring. That was important to me because in the US you will not be able to drive your car so fast for so long and work the engine so hard in the process. Which means for me that I can be fairly sure that the ESS tune will not negatively impact the reliability of my car when driving it here in Europe, i.e. in the same environment. Whether that is an aspect that you wish to consider is up to you, of course.

Guys ... let's just say those numbers are low.

Guy with 135 on a mustang dyno with stage 1 did 330whp. That is about 375 at the crank. I will have my stage 3 dyno up soon.

My ESS flash dynod at 315 at only 10.5 psi, and a rathe rich AFR due to a safe mode. I have no doubt it makes more than advertised. That was a relatively conservative dyno also, that's about what an LS1 Camaro SS puts down there, and about 30 less than an LS2 Vette. 45+ up from stock on an extra 2-2.5 psi, which is not dissimilar to what Dinan 2 seems to gain. I'm sure stage 3 is in another world, with an extra 4 psi of boost.
