Thats is Shocking!!! I thought security update + hiding OBD should do the trick.

Feel so sorry bro... But Im glad that your car has been found! How was it located soooo quickly? This is such a good news!!!
By the way, is it possible to get BMW to locate your car? I always think this is something possible to do, or is it just me imagining? Whats up with our BMW nowadays? It does seem that our cars can be stolen very easily. People get their wheels stolen sitting on bricks, whole car gone. BMW do something for god sake. |

Ive put a hidden switch (its not near the drivers door) on the OBD2 live feed and used a extension cable so the standard OBD2 port is not accessible. I was hoping that would be enough - maybe Im wrong.

what i don't get is why bmw cannot get them back via "we can locate your car if you've forgotten where it is or lock your doors if you forgot if they are locked etc" facility, i appreciate its not on every car but must be on some of them |

Well, just finished cleaning her up.
The only damage is the drivers glass and the door lock which is completely busted; no idea why they attempted to open the car door via the lock? the other pain is that they thought the car may have had a tracker fitted and cut two square holes in the passenger and driver carpet at the footwell. they parked the car up behind a large housing estate and waited to see if there was a tracker. police were notified and watched the car. two suspicious people walked over to the car and the police gave chase but they got away, however they got photos of them. The scum cleaned out the inside though; took the sat nav, chargers, cables fuel can, even warning triangle ffs. so a new door and two carpet trims and with autoglass round in the morning should be good as new. lucky really could have been much worse and best of all my brand new 313 were still in perfect condition |

Get the CAS and keys replaced. You never know that they may have made a clone key and come back to take it.

Good point, will do. Have a disk lock fitted for the moment and its now on my parents drive with two cars in front of it.
Happy to have the car back and hopefully with some help from ebay the repairs will be around the same price as my insurance excess. |

That is amazing! Glad you got it back.
How did they find the odb port? Did they remove all the panels in the driver foot well? Thought the port being hidden was enough... apparently not :-( |

The obd was hidden and moved from the original place. They just ripped out all the plastic covering in the footwell until they found it. From the amount they removed, to hide it you would have literally have to have moved it to the passenger side!!
Fortunately I waited to notify the insurance company so there will be no claim made on the car and now that it has been recovered it will be removed from the stolen database so thats two big wins! The other great point is that the thieves now know that the car has a tracker well hidden somewhere on the car due to the police finding it so fast and also nearly catching them when they came back for the car so hopefully they will be leaving it alone in the future, however i will be fitting a new high end tracker/security system and also fitting a disklok every time I park it from now on. |
