A friend of mine had this problem with his 335xi; his car is still in the shop now.

It could be a case of improper heat treating on the cam. If so that can often happen only in certain batches.

if its the cam problem im thinking of, its only the cam bearing ledges/caps. the end seals toward the front of the vehicle wear a groove into the cam ledges and causes vanos faults for either intake or ex. its just the cam ledges/caps that get replaced, not the actual camshaft... that is unless there is another issue which i do not know of

I had problems with my car throwing the check engine light. Stop the car and start again and the CEL would not be on ..... until it happened again.
I took it to the dealer and they checked to see what codes had been thrown. Fortunately there was a service bulletin out on this. Apparently this was a bear to diagnose pre-service bulliten. The problem was described to me as "a seal does not provide enough oil pressure to the Vanos system. No damage is done but the condition triggers the CEL. The job to replace the seal is no small one. Cam(s?) are removed as part of the process. I saw the job midway. In any case, now there are no issues save the 29.2 debacle. -B |

Agreed. But, hopefully they'll fix it and that will be that...for now.

I know of two cars that had the problem about 3-4 months ago. No big deal. The dealership takes care of it no questions asked.

My friend with this problem has never had any sort of tune or other mods; the issue is not mod related.

My buddy took delivery on his e92 328xi about 4 months ago (July?). He ordered it from the factory. He had the 'cam shaft issue' as well. They replaced it for him. The work took about 5 days and to make up for the inconvenience, New Country BMW paid for his lease for the whole month.
