I think that the E90 is just one of those cars that were not meant to be red

I don't know why but to me, it's almost like buying a yellow E90

Wooo that factory pic is nice! The e90 looks so wide and aggressive when it's lowered like that! Just imagine a car with aftermarket suspension or a front lower lip that will give the car this stance. Can't wait to see some.

I talked to BMW rep(>6 years, no warranty) & he implied red has a much higher maintenance factor. IE I should have shelled out big buck$ for yearly silicone coatings, etc or kept my 318 waxed in a garage.

Well I have no garage, waxed it 2x a year, & live in Seattle(which is NOT the sun capitol of the USA). Some body shops here thought the main problem was the BASF clearcoat used, ie it was water bourne, & first used in the 1996 3-series. I've seen red bimmers from earlier years that put my finish to total shame...even ones from Arizona!

I would like to hear feedback(pro/con) from others who have red bimmers. Why do I want this feedback? Because I still love the color red & may buy a 2006 325 coupe. I need to know if my situation was just a fluke, or common enough that I should think twice about not making the same mistake again...TIA
A very good friend of mine had a red 328i E36 sedan. Definitely showed severe weathering signs (she keeps it garaged at home, work has a covered parking deck). Don't know if it's the paint itself or her lack of waxing. Anyway, I was able to help some prior to her selling it recently- two days worth of work by me with a Porter Cable and 3M products. Not a perfect finish when I finished but the oxidation was gone and I had restored respectible gloss and depth to what paint I had to work with. She basically never waxed the thing in the 7 years she owned it, so I attribute most of it to that.

volsfan0911 - So would either of you still buy a red car after all of that? Was her car clearcoated? That's been the main problem with mine. I did not know how thick it was & had BMW detail my fading red 318ti, thinking that would fix the oxidation. When I went to pick it up the clearcoat was peeling off in a few places(see attached foto) after the power buffing. BMW did not charge me for the work, but eventually I talked to the district BMW rep & he said too bad, that I should have garaged it, etc. He implied I should have chose a different color?

So now my 318ti needs a new paint job(~$4K), most shops I talked to said it SHOULD have lasted much longer even if not garaged. I guess I could have waxed it more than 2x/year...so it goes. Still I believe the clearcoat was defective, 1995 was 1st year it was used on 3-series I'm told.

I probably would never buy a red 3 series, but I must admit these pics really look pretty good.

This is a 320d with a straight exhaust? The 320d in South Africa has a curved exhaust??? Curious isn't it.

here, if you look closely on this black one, you'll see the exhaust points down...

@Broken1: The 320d with the straight exhaust has a sooty particle filter, when the exhaust points down there is no filter.
