I found a new web site that is really helpful! Aida arrives at the PanCanal on Feb 19 (just as we thought) and is scheduled to transit the canal the morning of Feb 21.

Thanks for posting the new site. I'll check it out after I post this. I had the same problem using sailwx with the SBLI call sign, but when I went to the top level of the site and zoomed into the Atlantic near Florida, I saw the Aida east of Jackonsville. I'll keep checking to see if it shows steady progress. |

I saw that today, too, but after looking into it further I think I determined that it was her last heading posted on Sailwx, meaning it was that nootime 2/15 data feed as she was going into Brunswick. I guess we will know for sure if we see her move tomorrow.

And, the regular AIS radar is STILL down. I wonder if they took a server down for maintenance. All I get is, "Server is too busy." It wouldn't matter for Aida now anyways because she's too far away from land to be picked up by radar. We only have Sailwx, if the data is actually new.

That means you have to keep your Thursday morning calendar clear to watch her on the PanCanal web cams.
I actually watched a ship go through the Gatun Locks last summer on my Treo phone. Sometimes they sit in that outer bay for two days, so you really don't know when they are going to transit (although this new web site will help with that). So, I happened to see it go through on my Treo phone and I then headed home to watch it go through the Mira Flores locks, the second set of locks, on my PC. It takes many hours to go through the whole PanCanal. |

One of the things I do is build web sites and it seems strange that Sailwx has been down so long. I Googled sailwx and discovered that it was built by some guy named Hal Mueller. http://halmueller.wordpress.com/about/
Sites run by individuals are subject to extensive outages. If this was a commercial site, it would have been up by now. I'll try to watch the AIDA making its way through the canal on Tuesday, but I've got a few appointments that day. |

I've seen good results when passengers on cruise ships, or customers with freight aboard the vessels, pester the bridge officers or the vessel operator to submit more weather reports--the old saying about squeaky wheels. |

Let me second that - thanks much for building sailwx.
On another note - anyone seen the Aida near the canal? Lloyd's bought out aislive recently, so I'm not sure how my 2 week trial registration is going to proceed... Last edited by Aaric; 02-19-2008 at 01:32 PM.. Reason: damned typos |

It could be. It's not in the PanCanal approach, yet. Here's the latest AIS snapshot.

She's in the canal area. Just a second and I will post a new map. She was actually on the map I just posted, but for some reason, her label wasn't there. Maybe a radar glitch??
