Hello d owners, I wanted to degrease/pressure wash the engine bay.

Any specific parts/areas that I need to cover/protect/avoid?

I have found multiple threads for engine bay detail but wanted to see if there are any specific areas of concern in regards to our diesel.

I would not use a pressure washer on any modern engine. Way too many electronics and connectors that could get wet. What I've done is to wipe down the exposed dirty surfaces with water with laundy detergent and spong or towel to loosen the grime. Then using low pressure from a garden hose rinse off the areas. As you have indicated I mostly wash the engne bay not so much the engine itself. For sure make sure you do not get water in the alternator. The other rule was the ignition system but that's not an issue with the D

The D is really no different in this regard as any modern turbocharged engine.

I don't know that I would use laundry detergent. I'd be afraid it would leave a residue and just attract more dirt.

I usually do the following, I'm not saying it's the best way to do it but, I've never had any problems with it:

Make sure the engine bay is cool.

Using just the hose rinse pretty much everything off. Use some discretion around electronics, try not to completely soak them.

I then spray some simple green (diluted) onto a rag and wipe things down.

Rinse and allow to dry with the hood up. It's a bit redneck but, a leaf blower (or compressed air from a distance) does a pretty good job of getting the standing water out of some of the hard to dry areas like the fuse and air box covers.

I say, compressed air and some vinyl/rubber/plastic cleaner on a rag. I wouldn't be dropping load of water in the engine bay. It's just not necessary.
