Failure to stop
The Mrs was in Leeds, stuck in stationary traffic. Dry roads, no ice and some feckwit decided to drive into the back of her.
She got out and asked the 'lady' in question to move onto a side road to inspect the damage. When she pointed out a crack in the Mini's bumper, both the driver and male passenger became aggressive and intimidating. 'Can't be any damage 'cos there's none to ours' was one line, despite the fact that their chav mobile was all knackered up anyway. Luckily she kept her cool and memorised the number plate, which is just as well 'cos when insurance was mentioned he told his wife/girlfriend to drive off. She's reported the incident to the police who have told her that the car does have insurance and that it will be failure to stop if the accident isn't reported. she's only just got it back after having the suspension repaired after the car slid on black ice and hit a kerb on our estate, so she's not best pleased. There really are some absolute F"*@%$s out there. Just glad they weren't even more aggressive than they were.

This happened to my ex, although when we went to the police, they weren't very helpful.
They queried the incident with the registered keeper, who denied all knowledge. The police said it was our word vs theirs. The insurer appointed a third-party accident investigator, who couldn't get anywhere either. So in the end our insurer gave up pursuing them and it was registered as a non-fault claim Just seems that if you're not the sort who does "the right thing", you can end up getting away with anything

Have the Mrs. examined by a physician, even it it seemed to be a light tap. The last thing she needs is a neck problem cropping up a year from now. Best of luck all around.

Not had the experience of a hit and run. But i'd be damn annoyed if it's some chav in a rust bucket.
I think BMW Individual should do a night vision capable recording system for front and rear screens.

I was involved in a collision where one of the drivers showed me his license and showed the other party a different license with the same picture but different names and addresses. He later threatened to sue me for bodily injury.

Thanks for all the replies and concern guys. Can't post at work any more , so not able to respond as quickly as I would like to various comments.
Anyway, upshot is that we're waiting to hear from the police. She did have some neck and back pain the day after, but would not go to the doctor despite my urging. Said she felt better the following day , even though I recommended a doc. Oh well.

SHE MUST see a doctor, even if she does not want to claim for injury. Its all logged that way, what date what injury so if anything did develop it can be traced back to the accident ready to claim for compensation if the neck got bad.
