Saddle/Alum
About to order my Montego blue 335xi. Want the saddle brown interior with alum trim, but every dealer i've spoken to has said they wouldn't do alum w/ saddle. I think it should look hot based on the pics i've seen! Who has seen it in person and what do you think?

I have saddle/aluminum. I think most people with saddle have aluminum, at lesat on this board. Unless it's a convert, I don't see why aluminum wouldn't be the preferred choice with saddle... With wood there seems to be too much color going around with the saddle combination.
Slap your dealer in the face

My CA told me the same thing. I have a Sparkling Graphite 335xi Sedan on order and I have still been going back and forth on which trim to go with.
The bmwusa "build your own" I think looks terrible w/ saddle/alum, but after seeing some pictures of cars on here, in particular a SG one, I am considering changing my order. My CA says the saddle looks best with the dark wood and thats what I have on order now but I also think the light wood looks great. The first one i test drove was a jet black w/ Saddle/Walnut and I must say it was a great atmosphere. Are you ordering a Sedan or coupe? personally I would love to get the gray poplar but thats only available on the coupe. I'd be happy to send/post some of these picturs ive been accumulating to compare the 3 different trims but I got almost all of them from the Interiors thread. Anyone regret getting saddle/alum? Any with Saddle/Walnut or Saddle/light poplar care to chime in? |

depends on the look you are going for:
sporty - aluminum classy - wood i personally think BMW's aluminum cheapens the interior, thats why i went with gray pop. no offense aluminum owners.

Can't be done? that is rediculous. If you are custom ordering the car, you can do whatever combo you want as long as it is available from BMWUSSA

I would go for gray poplar with saddle, very nice
Alum IMO looks a bit cheap and not as nice as wood with this particular color |

Sorry, i should clarify. He said he wouldn't suggest doing it, as he doesn't like the way it looked. I know it can be ordered that way!

Whenever any BMW dealer tells you that you can't order something that's right there in the build section for a 335, a convertible no less, if I were you I'd shake their hand, show them your checkbook and then leave. The arrogance! Get what you want. You're not asking for BMW Individual here. I feel for you.

I also did Gray Poplar on my Montego/Saddle - Aluminium was my other choice, didnt like how the brown woods looked with the saddle seats, but I think Aluminum or Gray Poplar both look nice - one adds nice contrast, the other blends a little more with the dash!
My CA said he wouldn't do Gray Poplar - best advice I ever ignored! |

I remember my CA telling me about a customer ordering Saddle/Alum. The customer asked his opinion, the CA said he wasn't a fan of it. The customer ordered it anyway and was very happy. My CA told me that's all that mattered to him.
Go for it, I think it looks great. |

Aluminum or aluminum-like trim is just getting too common. Gray poplar wood however is very rare and goes great with the saddle brown.

Grey poplar is the only 'wood' that looks good in the 3'er IMO. It's still a bit sporty, with some class to it. The other woods make me wanna vomit. It's not a coffin, or a Bentley.
