Do you need USB/IPOD integration for New iDrive

well, here is the question.
if you want to play music from external harddrive or USB key, do you need the factory installed USB/iPod integration, even if my car is going to be a MY09 with the new harddrive based iDrive. does the iDrive come with USB outlet as standard?

sorry, cant seem to find any clear information on this.

I recently spec'd out a new 2009 335 with 609 Nav, ZSP Sport package , my sales advisor said I would need to add the 6FL = iPod and USB adapter in the order for it to work. Hope this helps.

My understanding (ordered 335i on the way) that you don't need the USB port - it will copy from a CD or DVD when inserted, but no, no standard USB.

I have an 08... but I think the same thing holds true for 09.. If you don't get 6FL you will regret it. The flexibility you get with USB based storage is worth the money.
