What will your next car be?

Now I reckon we all think about this after we've had our current steeds for a few months (if that). My wife doesn't understand it but I'm already thinking about what next. I saw in another thread that Beauforty was thinking S5 for 2009 (which is when I'll be up for a change). I was thinking numerous things but the things I'm thinking about are (has to have 4 seats so 2+2 at least):

Used 330i
Used 335i
New 135i (just can't get you out of my head la la la...)
TT TFSi with all the toys

OR

Used 996 Carrera 2

Now the latter option really could be a reality and would be a dream come true!! I've wanted a 911 virtually since I knew what a car was, and could have bought one this time purely on budget terms, so I'm now thinking....

Anyway, what do you fancy next and, to prove my theory, just how far ahead are you thinking about changing?

I really don't know at the moment... but certainly starting to think ahead about things. Possibly one of the following in order of preference:

New 2008/2009 BMW Z4
Audi TT
Boxster or Caymen
Some sort of 3 series (either an efficient diesel or a big polluting petrol)

Thinking about changing late 2008 or early 2009... depends how money goes as I'm contemplating paying off my mortgage this year

Well, I am sorry to say that the 'what will the next car be' moment has come....... and gone....along with the 335d. I have just sold it!! Why? needs must; the Merc GL is an expensive beast and although I have an exceptionally good deal I cannot have both GL and 335d. It has been a very very sad day today. I have bought a Mini Cooper to compliment the GL (which is a priority in terms of size and space for 'domestic' reasons) to give us two cars which can be used for a variety of purposes. Common sense but it still doesn't make parting with the 335d any easier (its like a mechanical bereavement). The GL arrives in March along with the Mini. I got a reasonable cash price for my car, not stunning but acceptable to me.

I did however sit in an M3 in the showroom at my dealer...... and I said the immortal words 'I'll be back..' !

Hope I am still welcome here! Maybe I can drive the 'team bus' (the GL) at the next meet.

Peter sorry to hear the 335d is no longer. If only life allowed us to have everything we wanted, all the time!!! The bus will most certainly be welcome at future meets, although the submarine might be a bit more fun!!!

Never stick to one mark. There are still so many good cars out there.
The new merc C class is so sexy....

BTW - i watched Top Gear. They said all the Mondeo men has changed to the 3 series in England. Sold over 1 mill.
so you must meet your own car every day. Thats another reason to find something else.

My thoughts exactly, although the AMV8RS has been announced, but at £160k

Prodrive do an Aston-approved upgrade for the standard AMV8 though... 425bhp and 440Nm torque

Sorry to see you are leaving the 3 series gang, but you are right to have your priorities in place. I am sure the mini will be a blast.
I would like to change back to a X5 but the 6 series is also on the list so we will see what happens towards the end of the year...

Sometimes the "domestic" stuff wins the day. But you should keep posting here, and best of luck with the GL

I am very impressed with the intial specs of the V8 twin turbo BMW are fitting to the X6. I may well consider an X5 with the same engine.

However, I am still minded to get an M3 with the new M-DCT transmission, in about 2yrs or so.

But who knows...

Peter, sorry to hear about the 335d having to go. As you say, priorities are such. There are 5 Mini's at work with 5 happy owners so sounds promising. Who knows what the future holds as far as choosing another beemer, you could be the first with some all new, all singing & dancing creation by BMW.

Im going to try and keep my E91 for two years - that give me 18 months left, however it just ticks every box for me at the moment, especially with two boys and another planned for 2009.

However, as my business is steadily growing hopefully by mid 2009, I will be getting a 'normal' family car ie, 5 Series M Sport estate etc for the 'bread knife, and a nice little 997 for me, just have to wait and see.

Always promised myself a Porsche by the time I was 30, well Im four years past that though, and my business and family took priority.

The other option was an M5 estate, but I think a 997 and a big diesel touring is a much better idea

Oh you just had to rub it in, didn't you

I've just got my E90 so for once I'm not thinking of the next car. At the moment, I think another BM and I'm happy with the diesel so far, so maybe a 330D or whatever the equiv is at that point.

Now, of course if I'm rich then a Cayman would be nice, but I'm probably dreaming!

am i allowed to say i have my dream car

if things keep going as they are and im lucky enough to be still in a financially fortunate situation in a few years i will be seriously considering a second hand AM Vanquish

... but i keep being told that my 335D will be a completely different car after the remap ... so i guess a remapped 335D will be my next car

Peter, a couple of empty boxes are on their way to you. Please collect your belongings, clear your desk and security will show you out the back door of the forum

Seriously, the MINI is obviously a very different car to the 335d but I really loved my Cooper and was sorry to see it go when I got the Z4. They are very chuckable and nippy cars and I know you will love it. Congrats on the MINI purchase - hope you will be joining www.mini2.com

Cheers Gordon!

I had a Mini Cooper overnight last night in order to allow my wife to have a try. The Mini was her idea in order that she can keep fuel costs under control. The Disco is costing a lot for the school run and trips to work for her. I actually quite liked the Cooper, it was nippy and well built, although the one the dealer lent me overnight was in Mellow Yellow My wife went out in it and liked the Mini although after years of driving big MPVs and 4x4s felt a little vulnerable sat in a small car close to the road! Anyway, upshot is that she INSISTED on an auto (she has been spoilt over the years!!), so I dutifully ordered a 1.6 Cooper with Chilli pack, 17" wheels and auto Colour is chilli red with black roof and black bonnet stripes. I also put the chrome driving lamps on the front and the dealer chucked in the tlc thingy. IMHO the auto spoils the fun, I didn't try one with auto box but apparently it has paddles so I can pretend I am back in the 335d At least I console myself that it is a BMW Mini!

Anyone who takes the p**s gets run over in the GL! - OK
