PROcede v4 first casualty

Removed from my car yesterday....

What's very illustrative of the current performance level is that it didn't happen during one of the 3000 odd dyno pulls. Or during the dozens of clutch dropping drag strip launches running drag radials/slicks running 18psi and race gas/meth.

It started to slip 2 weeks ago while testing early versions of v4 beta on pump gas. Clutch would hopeless slip at anything more than 75% throttle as soon as it hit 3000rpm. With a boost target of just 11-12psi. Same thing happened to another early beta tester (sorry JP!). This is why all current v4 beta guys only run 10-11psi of peak boost at low rpm (see logs). Goes to show that not all boost is created equal.

Since then, I've installed an upgraded clutch and flywheel which is almost fully broken-in. Once fully tested, I'll post up a little review. But it's really nice so far. Pedal effort is a little stiffer. But no chatter. And it free revs a whole lot faster.

Still, I got a little opportunity to do a little impromptu drag race last night (in Mexico) before it started raining. Without a burn out or hard launch and running meth with a beta Stage 4 v4 map (what?!), it is considerably faster than before. Expect a little surprise when the drag strip dries out.

Wow that still impressive to say the least to be on the original clutch with all those dynos and testing of the Procede tune....That alot of aggressive miles on that OEM clutch!!!

I'm surprised it lasted this long. Makes you wonder about those guys that get new clutches at 20k...

I just bought the CNS Racing exhaust and was very impressed....I am planning to buy their stage 2 clutch shortly to handle the added power.

I tend to be really easy on clutches. Everything shift is rev matched and downshnifts are all double-clutched. And I try not to do anything stupid. I learned my lesson years ago after going through 4 transmissions in a turbo Subaru and then having to live with a dogbox from then on

Not much to spill at this point. Currently only being tested by me and TMR. And both of us aren't getting much luck with it right now on damp CA roads. Similar to Stg 3 but with much less top end boost taper and more boost in the 4000-5500rpm (15.5psi peak).

ACT has really served me well.

It's an ASR/Spec Stg 2+ clutch kit. I went for a non-self adjusting unit so I could also use their light flywheel. It's pretty cool in that it has a steel plate that can be removed/replaced pretty inexpensively ($150?) instead of having to resurface it.

Joe-- My buddy who used to work at East bay BMW (Nate) opened up a shop in Fremont. Let me know if you need work done and i'll put you in touch with him.

Yeah I learned my lesson with clutches... Stay away from ceramic and dual mass flywheels... I have the UUC upgraded organic and it has held up well... Only breaking axles now It would be nice to hit the strip and see if I can hit a high trap with my car putting down 430WHP

So can the autos handle the torque or is boost going to be limited to 10-12psi in the lower gears? There is no clutch to get chewed up, but I would imagine might require better tranny cooling as the torque converter probably generate a lot more heat than usual.

Dayum man, what do you have on your car? Stop torque braking, you might save yourself from broken axles.

So Shiv, was this more caused from increased TQ because of V4 and TOO MUCH boost or was it just about time it went because of the amount of wear it has had? Does this mean our clutches cant support 400wtq for too long, LOL.

I have a 6mt... So not power breaking... Just a 3.5-4k launch and the axles cant handle it... I took out the CDV and thats when the axles started breaking. Im not alone here... Thers others that have broken axles with slicks. I have broken 3 axles... Thats why I have stopped racing it... but I would like to throw on some 555r's and spin a little bit and at least be able to launch and not burn out all through 1ST-4th gear on street tires.

was wondering the same thing.

Is this the 14lb Spec flywheel? did you weigh the factory flywheel when you took it off?
