Argh... AHL fault

Now maybe it's just my luck these days but so far I haven't caught any breaks. Friday I curb rash my new rim and now less than 2 days after installing the LUXs I threw two AHL codes (9CC0 and 9CBF). $85 later (for running to a local shop to have the codes read, it appears the right H/L stepper motor controller is shorting. Now maybe it is conicedental or maybe it was the bulbs... I don't know, but for now I am not so sure I feel comfortable about putting them back in. I have put the OEM bulbs back after (after loosing more skin on the knuckles) and will be driving my pouty a$$ back to the dealer to commense my best acting job of playing stupid. I hate to think I am out $230 for these bulbs and really, really want the brighter AE so how can I prove it wasn't the bulbs without taking the chance of reinstalling and shorting something again (assuming it was me that did it)? I've read all over this forum and it seem the AHL are notorious for throwing codes on their own but I am not so convinced I didn't play part in all of this.
BTW thanks to Walter for helping (no, he did most of the work) with the painted reflectors. And sure enough, driving around and parking it in the sun fixed the minor gaps where the adhesive didn't bite due to the cold. I owe you a beer! How did the exhaust install go?

Hey Jamie... I am sorry you're going through so much hassle. If you'd had posted here before spending the $85 I am sure you'd have found a local member with a BT Tool to scan the codes for you. Wait for someone like Steve or Nivedh to reply to this thread before going to the dealer, they will likely offer some good insight on how to not shoot yourself on the foot.

Don't mention it... I am relieved that those "bad" spots got fixed as we hoped. The exhaust install went well, all three of us (Nivedh, Henry and myself) liked the final result although one of the DP studs snapped and Nivedh is dealing with an exhaust leak for a few days until we lift the car and put the new DPs in. I also scratched the side of my big nose on one of the old exhaust's clamps and started bleeding from there and probably scared Nivedh's family (sorry dude ) but other than that it could have been much worse.

and just like that.... codes are gone. Maybe I should play the lottery today? Thanks for the offer, I certainly didn't want to foot the $85 but that's what I get for being impatient. I will utilize my online resources next time!

Well... what I meant was wait for Steve or Nivedh for their knowledge, but cool nonetheless.

It's a good idea to invest in the BT Tool. You wouldn't believe the things that can cause our cars to throw codes. Here's one: "too many or prolonged unlocks" from holding down the unlock button on my keyfob to lower my windows.

When are we having a mod fest and drive coming up? I'm ready to do something instead of just staring at my damn car.

...although if I had an M3 I would be just as happy staring at it.

On a serious note - now that we successfully hijacked another one of Jamie's threads - Steve mentioned a drive up the mountains by his house in December:

Quote:
Anyway, I am thinking Saturday December 11th, in the afternoon of course. My girls (twins and Jennifer) are going to a play which was suggested I not go to (not crying about that). So I will be open and ready to drive. I have a few routes which are within an hour of Woodstock and since you, Walter, would be up this way in the morning, we could head out just after lunch.
Should we start a dedicated thread about it?

-Walter

I have November 25th and 26th (Thu and Fri) off from work (Thanksgiving). I am sure everyone will be with their families on Thursday, but if anyone is down for that Friday I might be able to.

Hey, I have a 2004 R1, I have not ridden that thing in more than a year. I'm itching to take that thing out for a nice long ride. I bought a new set of Michelin Pilot Sports and they are still brand new. Let me know if you want to do a ride.

Yes, I have a Duc. She needs a quick tune-up before I can take her for a spin though, I rode her only once this year.
