What am I in for?

I just found out that my car is being built with the N51 SULEV engine because I'm in NY. How much of a performance difference, if any, will there be from the N52? And are all 328i engines bound for NY N51?

Are you sure? The N51 is a 2.5 litre used in the 323i. Canada has that model but I wasn't aware of it being offered in the USA.

it's a 3.0L. I don't think they would be able to get away substituting a smaller displacement engine with a lower HP rating than what they specify in their selling brochures. If they did, the courts would be more crowded than they are now with the folks that are trying to claim Anna Nicole Smith's body.

I spoke with customer relations @ BMWNA and asked for specs on the N51. They said there was a slight weight increase ~30lbs. It's definitly a 3.0L with the same HP & torque ratings as the N52. Rated SULEV for CA, NY, and other states that require reduced emissions. I'm going to look on the bright side. Maybe there won' t be the metallic ticking issue from the lifters on this engine.
