Upgraded to M-tech Rear

Finally had an excuse to upgrade to a m-tech rear. The diffuser was painted matte black. Car looks much better now.

Fitment was 9/10 for being a replica from eBay. The 1 point deduction is because there's some residue lines from the moulding next to the wheel. I think if the body shop sanded that part down it would have been spot on. I was able to keep the existing bumper guides.

It was unpainted and it was about 240 at the body shop for the paint and install.

I found him from other members here getting the m3 front from him. I'm also local to him so I picked it up for a discount.

I was just going to ask around about this exact eBay bumper (at least the pre-LCI version). Thanks for posting.

Did you get lucky with the bumper guides? The auction clearly states new guides are required:
____
If your vehicle already already has the MTECH package, this bumper is a bolt on direct fit.
If your vehicle does not have the MTECH package from the factory, you will need to buy the MTECH rear bumper guide supports. Part #(s) for left and right are 51127906505 & 51127906506.
____

That shows up on realoem:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&fg=17&hl=12

As a different part number.

Any ideas what the body shop did to make it work? Maybe an LCI versus pre-LCI difference?

Thanks

And.... I think I just answered my own question.

If E90 is PreLCI and E90N is LCI then the LCI does come with the new bumper guides for both the normal bumper and M aerodynamic bumper.

With the PreLCIs you need the bumper guides. LCIs don't require the guides...at least for me it didn't.

Does look good for a rep - but I got my E92 MTech rear from JGMods (forum vendor) for less than that eBay price...

JGMods rep parts have best fitment I have seen for reps

I am close to picking this up from them for my E92. I am curious about the diffuser piece, specifically that lip piece directly in the middle. does that just snap in. Jgmods shows the bumper unpainted without this piece. So the mtech bumper should contain 4 pieces? The bumper cover, diffuser and that little black piece abover diffuser and tow cover?
Whats the finish on the black pieces?

thanks

You can't go wrong with the JGMods rep

It comes in (4) pieces as you stated:
  • Bumper Cover (made from OEM material)
  • Diffuser
  • Tow Hook Cover
  • Bumper Center Trim Piece (part you spoke of)

The Diffuser and that center trim piece that goes in the recess are natural black plastic finish - some leave them as-is, some paint - I would have painted mine matte black (if I used it), but I got the BMW OEM iS Sport Diffuser to go with the bumper.

For that center trim piece I used a CF Overlay that I cut from Carbon Fiber/Cleared sheet stock with adhesive backing that I got from DragonPlate.com

The center trim piece has alignment posts that match holes in the bumper recess and use 3M double sided tape to attach (included & installed on trim piece)

No need to change out your bumper guides either - the bumper cover is made to use your factory standard bumper cover guides.

Great! thanks for the info. Now it makes sense why that piece is left out of photos, since once its it is in, It's in with tape. I am afraid I may forced to get that BMW OEM iS Sport Diffuser too. Love that look with it painted much better.
Good to know about the bumper guides.

Here's some pics of my JGMods Mtech with the iS Sport diffuser before I installed my PE. I also used real CF sheet material with adhesive backing to make the end & center fillers. Bought the CF sheet material from DragonPlate, used the supplied parts as templates & cut them out of the CF, then applied
