Update for Engine Control Module. Should I Update?
The BMW dealer says they have an update for my CPU and its going to cost me $140 plus tax. They say it will fix my idle surge I have on cold starts. I asked if it my tweak or make anything better performance wise and he said no it will probably take some out. I am like what?
What do you guys think?

You could go the dcan cable route and do it yourself although some people deem this too risky. I personally have been successful and recovered from unsuccessful flashes

Here is the paper from the dealer.
Also when I turn my wheel and let of the brake if I don't touch the gas the idle starts jumping.

I doubt it'll be just the DME update. ISTA/P will want to force update all control units installed in the car. So basically, the entire vehicle will get a software update for $140, which isn't too terrible.

I just realized that he instructed me that the update fixes possible injector problems and now my car has got some issues is far as misfiring. Could this be the reason?

The dealer put me in a loaner car saying it will take 3 hours. Wow.
Will this update make my exhaust quieter? I hope not.

I just got my DME updated at the dealership, and my exhaust got quieter. Yesterday I had my secondary cats cut off and I love the way it sounds, now it sounds like crap.
I do I fix this, or get rid of this update? Also idle isn't as smooth and my sputter has returned. I am providing pictures of my update to see what software version I have and if you guys can tell me anything about it. ISTA/P version - 50.4.002 Integration level - E89X-13-07-503

They will not be unable to remove the software update, their systems don't allow anything like that. You'd have to find a aftermarket coder to reflash the DME with the original software. |
