Alright guys so I may be in the position to trade my 2007 e92 335i for a 2008 e90 m3 sedan.

The e92 335i i own has 53k miles, it is TiAg on black dakota, with premium, cold weather, sport, comfort access package, and has a 100k/6yr warranty.

The e90 m3 has 54k miles, its interlagos blue on grey, beautful combo. Its loaded with similar feature but it also has navi.

So im talking prices and it looks like its gonna come down to my 335i plus 15k on top to make this deal happen.

I love the power of the 335i, I just got it last March when i traded in my G35 and it was night and day. I have a jb+, charge pipe, DCI, DPs, and BOV on it right now, so I know I havent really tapped its power potential, I am considering a Cobb AP.

Now as much as I love my 335i, an m3 is an m3, I have always wanted one a regretted so much going to a g35 instead of an m3, i settled back then and even though i was crazy excited about the 335i, I still knew i never got to that epitomy of automotive excellence aka M3.

I have a chance at one and im considering it, on one hand I can go all out FBO and a Cobb AP and enjoy the lower cost of ownership with the E92, not to mention I love the coupe body. On the other hand, I can pay to play and have the all out amazing experience of an M3 with the daily drivability and practicality of a sedan.

Any insight one way or the other would be great, thanks guys.

If you can afford it then go ahead, you mentioned that you always wanted one. However, if you have other financial obligations, you might want to pass. And a M3 also requires a lot of money for maintenance over 50K miles, or so Ive heard.

15k more for a car with more miles and no warranty, worse gas mileage and higher maintancr cost lol no thanks..An M3 is an M3, but it doesn't make much sense financially in my opinion. but it's up to you, do what you think is best

15K is money you can spent on different things,but if you can afford it so no hesitation,M3 is an M3 go for it!!!!!!!1

well as far as money goes, i think i can pay for it, it will strain things a bit, insurance will be higher, more for gas, maintence doesnt seem like it will be but many are saying it is. As for the question of whether or not i need it, I dont track yet, no time. Im basically looking for the ultimate daily driver, honestly the 335i comes very close, but there is something special about the M3, the question is, is it 15k special? Especially if i go FBO with a tune, everyone keeps telling me its a totally different car, maybe i should grab a Cobb AP and then see if the trade is still worth it...

I just have a Cobb and that is more than enough power/speed to kill you and many others on the road. I would love to see it with FBO.

Buying a high performance car without warranty, think about the cost of things when they do break and if you already going to strain to make this deal happen then you are in trouble when car has issues! You have an itch, even though you want it scratched only do it if you are truly financialy capable to dish out 15k..

15k in to an employer 401k that matches 50 cents on a dollar, you have made $7500.00 end of the year, great investment if you ask me :-)

Hard to turn down an M3

However I've made similar decisions previously in my life (Turned in a Warrantied Maxima that was fully paid for, for a used Corvette that cost me an additional 20k) and although I had a ton of fun, it set me back 5 years financially.

Tough choice, but for me I'd skip it... no matter how much I love the M3.

I'd say forget about performance when making the decision. The 335 performs (more than) well enough that if you're looking for the "ultimate daily driver", I wouldn't choose the M3 due to performance.

You'd be paying more for the prestige/badge, for the body kit, and for the M-specific things like seats and steering wheel. If that is worth it to you, then go for it.

See if there is a way to rent one for an entire week. Or trade with a friend who owns one for a week. THEN ask yourself if it's worth the 15k. The reason I say a week is because that will take you through a real life work week and weekend. I wish I did that when I bought a 530i a few years ago. The test drive got me hooked. Bought it and I was bored 3 days into driving it. I sold it a month later.

yeah i hear yea theres part of me that just wants the m3 too. I have to say though after getting my cobb tune up and running its just amazing. Like learing to drive a new car again i recommend it highly.

yea im thinking of an AE exhaust and FMIC to get it to breathe better and sound meaner and get that Cobb AP, how do you like the feel of the linear throttle map. Did it make you think less about trading for an M3

Would you own it or would the car own you?

With your position with the car ATM you def need to stick to the 335i.

Not sure about the $15k part. WE just bought the lease on our 2008 M3 after 45k miles. Loaded for $38k. Most were in the $40-$48k listed price. Unless you could get it CPOd, which I don't think so ater 50k miles, then I'd pass. Repairs can get very expensive on these things and you have no idea how well the previous onwer took care of it. We had a prety good idea on ours, which is the main reason we kept it.

Find one the dealer will CPO and give you the 100k miles warranty on

And, the M3 is more than a badge. Totally different feel to that than my 335xi. Way more fun to drive.

Keep in mind, in general, sedans depreciate much faster than coupes in value. We do not know the pros and cons of this situation though like price etc.

the monthly payments come out to the low 200s a month, my insurance does not change at all, im approved to finance so i will, but i plan on paying it off before the span of the financing, 15k though does seem like a lot, if it were closer to 12k i think i would have bit the bullet

I would pass on any M car out of warranty. My friend leased an 09 M5 and he's glad that he didn't buy it. The car had all sorts of little electrical issues last year. Had he bought it and had it been out of warranty he would be spending some serious cash to get it all fixed. We feel bad for who ever buys this thing now.

M3 is my next step as well.

If you can afford it - get a serious pre purchase inspection and go for it.

You are not going in blind, you know the parts are more expensive, the mpg is lower but there are less headaches: no turbos, no intake carbon, no HPFP detonations, amazing suspension and you get the sound of god screaming at you when you drop the pedal to the floor.

M5's are much more complicated than the M3. This has been the primary complaint about this car. Too much technology.

That said, I think $15K over the trade of the 335 is too much unless you can get some kind of warranty.
