oil change
I'm sure this topic comes up a lot, purchased my 6 sp 335i coupe in October and have drove approx. 3000 miles already. I took it to the BMW dealership for an oil change, and they informed me based on records, that it was changed in November (at a different BMW dealership) and an oil change isn't due for another 6000 miles. In case you need to know, yes it's my daily driver.
-How often do you change your oil? - If you car isn't required to have it's oil changed and you are covered by warranty, and would like to have it changed, must you pay out of pocket? -Is it okay to change a bimmers oil every time a "change oil" sign pop out on the odo? all help/advice is appreciated! |

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Not even sure why they bother to print an Owner's Manual anymore (or keep it on line for that matter). Maybe BMW should have the owner's manual as a built-in audio book and for the first several thousand miles or so, the radio will only read the book to the owner; repeating the section on oil change interval requirements so buttheads don't come on E90 Post and ask about oil for the umpteenth billion time...

Here we go again. Along the lines of the radio- Perhaps, before the car will start, one should be made to listen to the CBS and its workings for the first 1000 miles. And one should declare their oil change preference (CBS or ignore CBS).
OK, back to OP's point, you have three choices: 1. Change when your CBS tells you to or less than 1000 miles of it or at least once a year 2. Go with a standard number- eg. 10,000 miles or at least once a year 3. Make your own schedule, depending on your preference Most importantly, always use approved oil (LL-01) |

My turn...
This is my first long change interval car so I am coming from a 5,000 km change schedule on my old cars - I change mine yearly at roughly 10,000 km (6,200 miles.) Your covered maintenance is: oil change is free at 1 per year or when the car tells you to change it, whichever is less. By the way, how fast is a 355i 0-60? Unscheduled oil changes are out of pocket.
There is little evidence that current factory intervals are inappropriate for BMW's but the 335 are now getting up in miles so time will tell as to whether or not the factory interval is ok for the twin turbo. Most enthusiasts change their oil at mid-cycle (7,500 mi). |

I have been changing Oil, Brakes, Etc.... in cars for year but this is my first BMW. Are there any special tricks or anything when it comes to changing the oil or is just pull the plug drain the oil replace filter and refill? Someone once told me that they don't have drain plugs and it had to be sucked out of the engine? Any help would be appreciated, also any suggestions on spark plugs also.
Thanks |
