It's more common in Europe. A shop just outside of Toronto here in Canada also offers the services. I know there's a member in here who drove up from the US to get it done there.

I highly doubt you're a guinea pig in the UK with regards to DPF removal for diesels. Check the UK side of the boards.

Do your cars have DPF or is there regulation that says you can't remove?

our EPA (eviromental Protection agency) a.ka. NAZI GESTAPO Agency has us by the cojones restricting changes on cars as far as the emissions part, our cars have DPF and its PROGRAMMED into the ECU which BTW we cannot decode due to the encryption formated in our DDE but on the contrary you guys in Europe have been able to decode and delete DPF so I suggest you look closely in your forum of UK there are quite a few guys that have done it with GREAT results!!! Wish we over here could help you but we are falked here

wondering if you know how it passes emissions after DPF removal? In Ontario, MTO now tests emissions via the OBDII port as of Jan 2013. I'd be surprised if DPF delete didn't show up on that?

They've done it on Canadian cars, so what you're saying isn't entirely true.

very true but we can count them with only one hand lol and we have not yet one to support if it has passed the emisions w/o the DPF. if so I would be one to jump on the bandwagon to have mines deletd and removed

You can be quite sure you won't pass emission control without the filter on.
The particles is not in any way handled on euro spec cars.
I don't know if your euria(?) system does something about the sood particles despite the missing filter.

One would imagine that it should be able to pass OBD testing with the right tuning trickery. The tough part would be meeting particulate requirements for those located in sniffer states. I believe that here in MD--for example--only OBD testing is required (if that) for diesels. What I don't know is how quickly that can change and if cars built before the change get grandfathered.

PR, I assume you mean that the ECU is not as easy to retune as we are not able to do it via OBD? The removal of DPF code from the ECU should be performed using the same "bench" tap that is used for your RENNtech.

:10-4. I'm guessing by cant he means that he doesn't want Uncle Sam fining him out the rear for doing it, especially considering the recent crackdown in the truck scene. One of my diesel truck buddies was telling me that the tune he got before the .5M ruling is still available on a hush hush basis at 3x the original price!

@FormerRotor
I think you are right about passing the OBD check.
Here in denmark, that is not used. Here they only use the "sniffer" method with a tube to the exhaust. Somehow they then mesure what comes out of the exhaust. And in my setup without DPF and a tune that is made afterwards to take advantage of that, I will not pass such a test.

Btw, I will attend a local meet with BMW-club.DK here in denmark where my car will be dynoed at the 6 of april. Will be the first dyno after removing the DPF.
Look forward to see the numbers.... ;-)

According to my tuner..

With DPF installed 340hp is a realistic figure from a 335d (whilst keeping EGT's sensible) More is possible but you start to put other componants at risk.

Removing the DPF helps flow etc so the temps are lower. Up to 370hp is possible. Torque needs limiting with the DPF so this is irrelevant after removal.

So yeah it's restrictive but I'm keeping mine.

I have had the DPF removed and after live mapping sessions reached 350hp/520lb-ft. Have not had any problems and passed its MOT without advisory. Well worth the outlay for the results, least I've had to a tank has been low 400's and I'm not shy of the right pedal

In California, they don't actually check the emissions on a diesel. They do a visual on your engine, and check your OBD for codes. No actual stick in the pipe test.
