Just connect those two connectors that are plugged into the 'rear' inputs on the amp into each other.

This is now your rears running off the head unit.

Then run new wires from the amp rear to the subs.

The way you have it now is the mids and tweeters running off the front channels of the amp along with the subs, but you have gone from an 87db mid to a 91db mid, so the new mid is now 3db (50%) louder than the subs.

As you only have the 4 channel amp, you are best to run the subs off the rear channels of the amp.

I was going to say something on those line but I stopped.
I wonder if he bridged the rear channel wires on the amp end, how is he going to feed the rear channels of the amp for the under seats?

Should he be cutting the rear input clip and tap the wires from the front input clip?

And cut the rear clip and add the wires which run to the sub?

And finally just bridge the wires for rear channels by connectors?

I forgot the 475 doesn't take bare wires.
Or does it?

There was a grub screw on the 555.

gIzzE. If I do this, will I still get any sound from my rear speakers?
Makkan00. I think the rear channel wires are not bridged, but how can I be sure?
I'm pretty sure that now front, tweeters and subs are running of the front channel.......so I should?
The sound is loud but I have no bass :-(
Once again thanks for your help!!!

You need to connect the two connectors coming from the head unit and going back to the harness behind the head unit (and thus to the speakers) together.
That is what he means by bridge them, not as in bridging amp channels.

This will then leave you with the rear channels (channels 3/4) free to hook up to your subs under the seat.

Have a look in the manual, I believe that when you don't input into channels 3/4 they output the same as channels 1/2.
You would then set the low pass filter to crossover at around 150hz.
You will also be able to up the gains so the subs match the level of the mids.

The only issue I can see is how to get the wires in the amp, on the 55 amp there is a regular connector with grub screws as well, I can't see if you have that on this, if not, is there a blank connector in the box?

i have to admit i thought this looked like an easy solution. it actually looks quite confusing the more i read on here. (And expensive)

I think i will stick with the Gladen route with a gaden amp or JBL amp.

also looked at doing the alpine upgrade with these....http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/grou...zmw200neo.html

Thoughts??

It is an easy solution, however, if using the 4 channel you should just add L7 tweeters, not swap speakers over.

If changing speakers, or swapping subs, you should really use the THA-555 5 channel amp, or wire the 4 channel as you would the Alpine, fronts off front channels and rears off rear channels.

Wow great thread, really impressed with the all the advice everyone is giving.

However the biggest problem seems to be that the 5 channel amp is no longer available.

What is everyone doing now with the 4 channel amp. Driving the front tweeter and mids with 2 ch's and the other two for subs. Then letting the rear run off the stock HU.

Is that even possible with a e92 LCI?

So confused, so my question is:

Running the Alpine upgrade from BMW with the subs as added in the web link, would this work?

Cheers

At the moment your front and rears are amped.
Front through front channels of the amp and rears through the rear channel of the amp. In OEM BMW sound system, front mids / speakers and underseats are connect in parallel, so power is halved. That is what has happened in your car.

What you should do?
1- Run rears through headunit rather amping them.
2- Manage the connections so all 4 channels get the signals from the front of your headunit.
3- Run new wires to your underseats from the amplifier. You will have to cut the wires going to your underseats and connect to these new wirings.

Here is what you should do.
1- Cut those wires and buy bullet connectors to connect these wires to each other. See number 1 in the photo. (connect wires and not connectors). Wires are colour coded, so connect the same colour wires.
2- Remaining portion of the wires on the clip on the left is input to the amplifier for the rear channel (use it for underseats). It should have signals from the front of your headunit.
So using wire tapping connectors, you should tap the wires of connector next to it (which is getting the signals for the front speaker). Once tapped correctly, all 4 channels of the amp will be getting the signals from the front of the HU.
3- Remaining portion of the wires of extreme right should be connected to the new wires going to the under seats.

So in nutshell, you should make sure that ;
- All 4 channels are getting the signals from the front of the head unit.
- Front channels of the amp will be used to power the door speakers (high passed)
- Rear channels of the amp will be used to power the under seats (low passed.

Hope that helps.

Cheers for the reply. I have to admit i am very tempted by the gladen kit. The frequency response on the mid/sub under-seat is pretty impressive to be fair.

Just trying to justify the cost now!!

Hi all

I have decided to get this upgrade but need a bit of clarification.

I am getting the 475 4 channel amp first, then later adding tweeters and upgrading speakers. Do I need to code the base system to HI-FI when I add tweeters.

Also is it ok to feed that much power to the stock speakers,

Stock Amp is 4 x 15w
475 amp is 4 x 75w

Thanks

I'd suggest you to upgrade both at the same time. Amp + speaker / tweeters and under seats.

There is nothing in the manual about coding the car to HI-FI, I guess there are so many permutations they can't put that info the manual.

The reason for upgrading later is that i don't need to get a separate amp for the under seat speakers. Unless of course I just power front which is something I don't want to do.

Is the 2 channel version any good for powering the under floor speakers, will have to look at how to remove the subs from the front channel and how to get the signal from the harness to the other amp.

Get the 4 channel amp. As far as I remember it does not require coding as amp accepts speaker level input.
If its pre-lci, disconnect the under seat wires and run new wires.
If its lci, then you may need connectors and bridges (connect) the oem clips.

You need number 5 (socket) : 61136984750 X2 (left and right under seats)
And clips: 61138364838 X4 (2 for right socket and 2 for left).

These parts are only to connect the new wiring to your under seats.

then on your existing clip (which you disconnected from the underseat) needs to be bridged. I am not sure what part number is that?
