Ideal exhaust setup with headers?
Already searched and it's a too much info to sift thru...
So say I want to get a set of Active Auto headers for my 328i. -want the power (will get 3 stage IM also) -want a bit louder exhaust/engine noise, (gurgles/straight 6 sound?) -STILL a family car with newborn and wife!, can't be obnoxious -has to pass NY emissions -don't want complications with CEL and whatnot. Is this possible? -Will try headers alone work with the rest of the stock exhaust? Will it sound like a real 3 litre straight 6 and not a sewing machine? Thanks for the input! |

Won't pass NYS emissions. And it won't be suitable for a newborn, way too loud, irresponsibly loud actually.

I thought NYS required 8 of 8 readiness monitors to be green and no tune except Evolve (?) does that. Or am I confusing NYS with another state?

Evolve, that's the one I was trying to remember. Thanks.

I think the big name tuners can take care of O2 so you won't see a CEL. You might pass emissions, but they don't guarantee it. There have been threads where people have 7 out of 8 readiness set after installing it while others who don't.
In terms of sound, headers with stock exhaust is very close to stock noise levels. Will you be happy with this? It sounds like you might not be. Just a warning -- after you install the headers, finding a noise-level appropriate exhaust will be harder as most exhausts aren't designed alongside headers (except for maybe SS) Quote:

AFE headers, SS mids, and a good exhaust (NOT THE BMW PE) and you should be ok. BCP tune, even though those headers shouldn't trip the light.

And there's the answer, thanks! Couldn't remember if it was NYS or PA that was 8/8, or maybe it's not PA either...

Thanks guys. Looking for a healthy BMW PE note, but was thinking of maximizing gains with the Active Autowerkes software, their headers and a 3 stage IM.
There's a tuner out in Long Island that sells Active parts and tunes so it's relatively easy to get a good shop to set this up for me. I appreciate all the feedback! |

If you're speaking about TKX, I wouldn't recommend them. They didn't install the correct tune and the CEL came on a hundred miles later. They said I NEEDED o2 spacers for the CEL to go away, which is contradictory to what AA advertises. They also were reluctant to speak with AA directly to figure out the issue so I had to be the middle man. I eventually figure it out myself by reloading the correct tune. In short, they didn't seem to know AA's products/tunes very well.

Just get a BPC tune. It's better.

Our O2 bypass option will get rid of the CEL but we do not guarantee passing any emissions testing.
Our header paired with our mid pipe and rear exhaust produce a great note without being overly obnoxious. Our headers when paired with a 3 stage manifold and our tune really do transform the way the car drives. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to PM me. |

Any plans on adjusting the tune? BPC is making more power with theirs, especially with the way they adjusted the DISA valve switchover with the 3 stage manifold.
