MTech Full Kit / Paint / Installation Cost

I was told that a particular body shop would charge ~2500 to put on a full M-Tech kit, which sounded reasonable...provided that was the total price (kit included). I come to find out that the price for paint and install alone came out to ~2200, not including the price of the kit.

I feel like I'm getting a raw deal, but at this point, the car is at the shop, the work is done, and I'm responsible for the cost of the kit and paint/installation.

Does this price sound a little high for paint/install? What is the usual amount of hours spent on paint / install (so I can possibly argue the number of labor hours)? Do I have any recourse as far as bringing the price down?

$2500 for paint/install is ridiculous. but i've heard worst than that.

painting is the major concern, who much would they charge just for that? removing/replacing the front/rear bumper aint that hard; there's prob a DIY on this board somewhere.

I would definitely recommend not to pay a shop to install. The DIYs available on E90 are great. I'd guestimate from what I've seen/heard that the cost should be easily/way under $1500 for just paint.

Unfortunately, the work has already been done......I'm just seeing what I should have expected to pay had I not been boneheaded and let the shop do it. I would like to have some hard numbers when I go in to talk with the shop, because there was no written quote to do the work (yes, yes, I know I'm an idiot - this was done as a supplement to a fender bender).

I bought the kit from Tischer and had a shop used by my local dealer paint and install it on my old 2008 335i - cost about $4500 total.

Now $2500 would've been way too cheap for parts/install/labor. That should've been your first clue that something wasn't adding up right.

Paint shouldn't have cost more than $1200. Labor is relatively easy, but body shops will charge an arm and leg for it. Definitely got ripped on this one, but not much you can do now but enjoy it.

They should also have a receipt breaking down paint/labor for you. That will tell where they really took advantage of you.

Buy from longtran. He'll order it and paint it for you... you just need someone to install.

Yikes, AJ! That's ridiculous. Sorry to hear about the bad outcome. It's always important to get a full and written quote when doing body work - now you know, though, right??

You should argue the price. Send me a copy of the invoice if you like. It's important to make sure they aren't double charging you for some of the nested/related line items in the estimating software.

Ps - some of you guys need to learn how to read. The work is done. Not sure how advertisements for longtran are helping...

The body shop has been cordial and responsive, and they are working with me. I'm hoping for the best and I'm not trying to flame them, since they have responded more than appropriately so far.

I'll keep you guys posted when I get some more information.

Update!

Got a few camera phone pictures below:

(In the Dark)

To make a long story short, I was in the shop for a fender bender, and decided that I might as well get the full M-tech body kit put on instead of the stock front bumper. It took a few times of doing inspections on this car to finally get it back how it should look, but I think it ended up looking pretty sweet. The shop worked with me on the price, and it ended up being pretty reasonable to get the full kit painted and put on, after factoring in what insurance would have paid to replace the front bumper.

Thoughts on the new look?

If you guys want specific comments about the shop I used / what I dealt with / what I paid, feel free to PM me.

Thanks Guys!

I'm glad everything worked out.

I think the new kit makes the rims look a little small...maybe I should go for some style 313's?

Looks good. If you don't mind I'm curious on how much they charged for paint?
