It will sound terrible. There are a few people on here that have tried it with some type of small straight through muffler but, the car ends ups sounding like a weed wacker.

My Evo would blow fireballs out of the too. It had an oval shaped straight through muffler as well. So, it doesn't necessarily have to be straight pipe to do it, just no cats.

I will be running no cats as soon as my RennArt ships their exhaust, their exhaust eliminates the secondary cats and has no resonators, (however they do offer resonated exhausts as well) and since i'll have the UR catless downpipes i'll be catless.

i'm not worried about sound since i had an evo with no cat.

I had an Evo with no cat and it sounded way better than a 335 with none and most aftermarket exhausts. I forget the screen name but one guy on here has been through like 10 exhausts and with no cats or resonators and an Eisenmann back section it sounded terrible.

Believe it or not even a turbo car needs a little back pressure in the exhaust.Thats if its a street driven car.

Negative. The turbo provides all the back pressure you need. After it if you could just dump the exhaust right out of the turbo would be just about ideal.

I run catless with a full 2.5" exhaust to Borla XR-1 racing mufflers, they are straight thru design... Its sounds amazing and only really smells when the motor is cold...

Shouldn't it be 3" all the way back?

Doesn't fit the 335i like other cars, a la Evos and STis. (Granted the 05+ Evos can't run a full 3 inch downpipe due to ACD bar).

And like others have stated, it's been done before. All you need are catless downpipes and catback system.

like most people in this thread, i ran 3" from the downpipe out in my evo... it is new news to me though that the 335 can only accommodate 2.5" pipes, but this raises a new question...what would be the best performance/sound exhaust out there though?

The one that will do it on a 335 will have lots of fun but only for a litle time.Nobody pays a bmw to scream like a tiger and go for a nice ride.Apart from this would be interesting to hear.

Personally, a loud BMW is not new.

Look at all these E46 M3's with Eisenmann Race exhausts. I mean seriously if someone were to do 2.5 all the way, it wouldn't be much different from the M3's. I mean the comfort level might drop but you gain the sound of the car.

I am sure it will sound godly.

Yeah but it's 2.5" times two. So it's essentially like running a 5" exhaust on an Evo. I think that should be enough for most of us.
