future of horsepower
Will we ever see a bmw 320d with 300+hp, toyota yaris with 250hp, mercedes s550 with ~600hp and a honda accord with 350+hp.
Will horsepower stop increasing? I sure hope not... |

I think the limits will be reached in a decade or two.
For $1 million, you can have a 2 second, 0-60 car that will go 250 mph. Veyron. For $100,000, you can have a 2.5 second 0-60 car that will go 200 mph. GTR. For $50,000, you can have the 2013 Shelby GT 500 Mustang with 600 + hp. The reality is, if you took a 2012 Toyota Camry and transported it back in time 20 years, it would be considered super fast. For top speed, there are very few places on Earth that are long enough to max out a Bugatti Veyron at 250 mph. Would 300 mph even be possible unless there is a strip of runway long enough? For outright speed, you can already get a 0-60 3 second car at your local dealership (Porsche, Nissan, Ford). What's next, cars that go 0-60 in 1 second? The next 20 years won't be about actual speed, it will be about how efficient and cheap and reliable that speed becomes. |
