Battery Symbol + No Power Steering

hey Guys,

Did some searching and just want to make sure.

My wife was driving my E90 ('07, 68K mi) home from school. When she got cose to home batter symbol went on and steering is TOUGH..

Serpentine Belt gone? makes sense...

Also my question is:

- Car is certified pre-own (purchased May '09), has 100K mi warranty.

Will this be covered? I hope so but this is a normal ear and tear part right? Eh....

- How hard is this to do on my own. I am handy..have tools, bentley manual..just SUPER BUSY WITH WORK I AM SO MAD.

- if I pay someone...how much should I expect it to cost? 2 hrs labor + belt?

Thanks,
-Peter

Yeah, it's the belt, but what was the cause that it broke. You can search the topic, but certian E90's are known for having an interferece issue with the PS pulley hitting the frame and damaging the belt, pump, frame. Some people have had problems with BMW covering the repair.

There is a DIY on here about changing the belt tensioner, just follow that minus the belt tensioner replacement part. Unless you have a bad tensioner that is. Should take about 10 minutes

Everyone...

So I bought the belt...was going to change it...referenced my bentley manual, and it even states this is due to a faulty left side engine mount.

BMW 3-Series Service Manual, Bentley Publishers, Page 020-35 "Engine Accessory Belt Service"

Here is a pic of the text:

So I bought the belt and was going to change it myself. Should I hold off and send the car for the dealer?

Thanks,
-Peter

The belt is easy to fix...

What I am referring to is should I take it to the dealer to fix the REAL problem?

Bad engine mount? Will they do it or just tell me to F-off?

It says it's a defect directly in the repair manual...my car is still under warranty as well....cert pre-owned '07, purchase in 5/09
