SOLVED: 2A82 Intake Vanos Code

Does anyone have any idea why this code keeps on throwing on my N52?
I have had this error for quite some time now, I don't drive the car much anymore since I got the M3... Wanted to fix it up, kinda ignored it.

Replaced solenoids no luck, error still shows. Replaced both!

Any ideas? Could it be another sensor issue or some mechanical parts that need replacement?

Sorry posted in the wrong forum. Please move here mods: http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=35

Thanks!

Check that your oil filter cage is installed and the little green o-ring is present. Since you have already swapped the solenoids without luck, it's increasingly likely that it's the camshaft bearing ledge.
I've attached an SI B with more information about this issue.

The oil cage is kind of broken on mine, the spring on it fell out, but it holds the filter in place properly. I didn't think it would make such a huge difference.

I am also considering the fact that the camshaft ledge is done...

Solved.

Solution: Oil filter cage was damaged, replaced. Vanos code gone. Power to the car restored.

Thanks so much for posting your experience and the resolution for everyone. I referenced this thread in a video I made about this exact repair.

Can't believe it was the plastic cap that caused this issue!

I can't believe it too. When I changed the oil I knew something was wrong as the little spring had popped out in the filter cap element. Replaced it, cleared the engine codes and it worked! Sometimes its the small things that matter.
