No problem . Use an L bracket for the outer halo , isn't that hard . Just make sure u tighten it and JB weld it . ask Asquared , he did his adaptive and used L brackets , check his post for pics .

Did you come across anything that did work okay?

I'm currently looking into retrofit options as I think the projectors on my 2007 328 are just junk––a common sentiment it would seem...

I put in new D1S bulbs a few days ago hoping they would improve the output. They did, but only marginally... obviously the projectors are to blame.

My hope would be just to do a lens swap, but from what I've read there are issues with fit and focal point, among other things.

Were you able to retain Adaptive Headlights? Any details on this install?

Awesome. You have any pics of this? I'm thinking about doing this with my adaptives, but I haven't cracked them open yet. I figured I'd have to make an adaptor bracket at the least, but I'd like to avoid modifying the OE bracket significantly. Wondering how the Hella G5 fits.

I have 2 sets for 2006 pre lci and you look on the projector shroud it shows Adaptive and Dynamic Adaptive for the BI-Xenons. Adaptive should technically only have the auto leveling feature and no right to left, while Dynamic Adaptive should
have both. Ihave ripped both apart and can confirm everything is identical even the wiring. I started messing around with coding and enabled AHL and Auto Leveling on the Adaptive which gives the same features as Dynamic Adaptive lights. So all the information I've seen on Pre-LCI lights have not matched up with what I've done.

I have a 2011 E90. My installer told me to get ZKW-R. However, I just came across this thread and read through it all and now I am very confused on which lenses to get. If someone could give me some input please. I want to take advantage of the black friday discount.

Thanks!

honestly I would just avoid it as there are some who say STI-R works, some say ZKW-R works etc. all these I do see people modify the crap out of the projectors using spacers etc. to get the correct beam pattern and no hotspot. I'd rather just modify the gimbal to hold different projectors. The cost of the lenses which is like $60.00 from TRS is close enough to better Projectors and worth spending the $$$ if your already opening up the housing. Would would loose adaptive though, but sometimes you have to give to get

Lol for the price, spend a tad bit more and just get some morimoto projectors from TRS. They sometimes have open box or b stock if you want to save some cash, but IMO if your going to open up the lights and mod them just do I right the first time around and spend the time and money

LOL to you! These are the same Hella-based G5R projectors everyone else sells, which are a step above the the Morimoto D2S 4.0 as the hot spot is better, they put out more light and they accept any style of D-series bulb, not just a D2S like the Morimoto and they don't have that hideous step in the beam like the D2S 4.0. The real deal here is these have a drop-in adapter bracket included, which in theory should take much of the guesswork and labor out of the install.

Hi guys

Finally I got time to do the clear lens mod. The main reason I did this is to change my headlight cover because it is kinda beat up and decide to do this lens mod together.

I got a 2011 E90 LCI with adaptive headlights, and it is true the headlight is impossible to break the seal by heat up the housing, you have to crack the cover to access parts inside headlight. Well I am replacing my cover so I go ahead and did this mod.

For E90 LCI headlight, you need "STI-R" lens with spacer like what e90TiAg335i described. The spacer is 2mm to 3mm to get a good or prefect focal point. You will see the difference from pictures below. E90 LCI projector the housing is ABS unlike metal bracket in E92, it is not that easy to just add spacer and done. I have to create an adapter, see picture.

Here are descriptions of each picture by order:

1. Stock lens, 8 years old and foggy/cloudy. You can wipe it clean easily.
2. STI-R clear lens
3. STI-R lens is 73.5mm diameter, but stock lens is 78mm diameter, you can tell STI-R lens is way smaller.
4. Temporary mounting STI-R lens by using some paper clips
5. Light outputs comparing between stock lens and STI-R lens
6. However, without spacer, STI-R lens the focal point is wrong.
7/8. You can be creative making your own spacer. Here I use this 3" ABS drain trap found in my local homedepot.
9. STI-R lens is 2mm smaller in diameter on this drain trap. I am making an adapter + spacer
10. After 4 hours with dremel making the adaper, STI-R lens sits prefectly in the adaper
11. The back side is 2mm tall spacing. I did not try with 3mm which may be better for clear focal point
12. While this drain trap is about 76.2mm, it fits projector housing prefectly.
13. The way I secure lens on the adapter is 3 hooks made by paper clips
14. Although most paper clips are covered with zinc, I still applied some galvanizing
15/16. STI-R lens mounted in adapter and installed back to projector
17. Clear focal point but not the best clear cut, you may play around spacing to get the prefect cut out. I am happy with the result.

Focal point still seems off by a good bit. I imagine you lost some useable light output with this mod.

Thread has went stale but i figure others will like what i'm showing below. I am also using a STI-r lens purchased from TRS.

I am working on a backspace that is further out than 3 mm. I am getting a nice blue cutoff line doing this. My method of out spacing is pretty cool. It is designed to use the factory clips of the parent lens holder. I'm using 0.216"/5.47 mm outspace to get the blue line. My bulb's hot spot is a bit off for unrelated reasons. See pic and note the hot spot is not due to the spacing.

First picture at 25 feet. Second picture at about 17 feet.

Can you share more info about your 'method' and devices?

i was told best to evaluate the focus at 25 -30 feet. I use 25 feet. Following pics are out in my driveway with 1st pic in housing but not on car. 2nd picture is projector sitting on a bar stool. Both connected to loose ballast and then connected to 12V battery. Don't mind that the light is ponting up high as it is not on the car. I used garage door to evaluate the wider beam and not just at the central diagonal.
