What the hell is going on w/ my shadowline trim?

My trim has been tarnished like this for a while. Washing doesnt help, but havent tried AIO or anything on it yet. Anybody else have this problem?

Try going over it with a light polish...should clear it right up...

A chemical polish like Klass AIO or an abrasive polish?

Start off with less aggressive product like the AIO. If it doesn't work, then step up to something a little more aggressive like a light polish. The AIO should clear it up.

If you have a machine my method is a 4" pad and AIO. If after the first attempt you can improve it still try it again. I've used AIO's for just this issue with great success. I think you're on the right track. Make sure you seal it or wax it when you're done. Let us know.

If you don't have a machine, a cleaner wax by hand will work. It definitely needs a polish of some sort, a simple wash won't do

If its under warranty I'd take it to the stealership and see what they can do. I successfully got them to install new trim on my e90 because it was very cloudy. The previous owners had no clue how to take care of cars. Worked for me. I just wished I would have thought to have them install shadowline instead of chrome which is what it came with.

This must have been what happened. I went through a few touchless washes over the winter.

I believe there is TSB for them not to replace shadow trim for this.

I picked my 07 335i a couple of weeks ago, and it had the same issue. A little polish cleaned it up.

Touchless washes sound great till you think about how they clean cars.

Think about it... they dont touch the car, and we all know water pressure alone wont clean a car.... right?

They use abrasive chemicals to get the car clean, more times then not they are abrasive enough to eliminate any wax or sealant and likely go deeper over time.

Just some 411 on that. Glad you got it fixed.
