Accident :/ Sad Day for my 335
Hey Guys,
Luckily I am okay first off and no one was hurt nor was i carrying any passengers. Was driving on a local road today about 7pm 35mph rd cruising having a nice ride home from the gym when I look down to check out my idrive and not a split second later "Oh F***" Flew out of my mouth" i braced myself for impact slammed the brakes slid a good 20 feet and smack right into the receiving end of a F150s bumper and trailer hitch "BANG!" went the air bag. I was in total shock that this just happened. Within seconds "This is BMW ASSIST is everyone ok we received notification of your airbag being deployed" I was in total dis belief (as i have never had an airbag blow and boy was it a shock. After I realized what happened I jumped out of the car quickly cleaned off the powder from the airbag and checked the driver in front of me "I'm okay I'm okay are you okay" I was pretty shook up. Anyway heres the pics i hope its fixable. Damage on scene from what I can tell: (VISUAL INSPECTION) -Steering Wheel Airbag -Passenger Side Curtain -Radiator -Oil Pump -Possible Frame Bend -Fenders -Xenon Headlamps -Washers -Structural Support in frontal engine bay -Misc. sensors -Hood -Bumper -Grills -Escort Radar Stealth install -etc. Heres the pics sorry for being blurry I wasn't really focusing on image detail This one takes the cake Last edited by MusclezMarinara; 09-09-2010 at 10:57 AM.. |

Sorry about your accident. That is pretty scary to have the airbag go off. Try and get a goodnight sleep and clear your head... sorry about the car too :/ but hopefully they will fix it asap.

Dang your car got efffed up while he prob just needs to replace a bumper. That's the problem with rear ending trucks =/ your car tends to go under theirs and they only get fender damage while your car gets demolished.
btw glad to see you're not hurt but maybe perhaps go to the doctor just in case. I didn't have any pains when I got rear ended until the doctor told me to tilt my head in a certain position and then BAM. |

Honestly.... If this happened to me, I would immediately be thinking upgrade. Sure it sucks that I'd have to back up the HDD, but really I would be almost giddy at getting to go through buying a new bimmer again. (assuming that it's totaled)

Ouch, glad everyone is ok. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on your perspective I guess), that car definitely isn't totaled.

agreed strange that the pass airbag curtain went off just myself in the car and nothing on the passenger seat.

I asked about the head airbag when I cleaned out the car the other day (totaled, but much more sever than the OP's) and they explained it is not necessarily related to impact. The head airbags are for rollover protection and if the car senses a possible rollover then one or both are deployed. It makes sense maybe for my situation because I possibly did have one side of the car lift off of the ground momentarily. It makes less sense for yours though.

In the grand scheme of things, it is just a car and can be repaired/replaced. However, you cannot, so I'm glad you and the person in the truck are ok.
That being stated, I would be after seeing my car in that condition. |

Glad you are ok. I was in a very bad accident a few months ago in my old Bronco (ended up in a ditch on my roof) caused by a drunk driver. Even though I was not even remotely at fault and could not have avoided the accident as I got t-boned, it has made me a more attentive driver. Anyhow, I don't really think your car is that badly damaged. They design cars to crumple so that the impact is absorbed. That truck may not look damaged but that just means the shock was felt more by the driver. At the end of the day, the only way most people can tell if a car has been repaired is by bad paint work. It looks like only your hood and bumper will have to be painted (unless the fenders do) so after the repair the car should be good as new. I see no reason why you can't talk the body shop into ordering you a mtech front bumper, probably could get a rear one as well and any other parts as they will have the paint mixed up already.
