removing undertray from carbon fiber hood
I have a JL-Motoring carbon fiber hood and a small part of the under tray hits my strut bar. The undertray doesn't appear to do anything, it is very loose and not connected to actual hood except on sides. sometimes rattles against underside of hood.
would it hurt anything to remove a portion of it?

Rob, I'd just put some of that black padding tape there, which will give a cushioned contact and eliminate vibrations.

It won't really hurt anything. The hood will be a little more flimsy when you open and close it; it will twist some since that under tray does provide some structural rigidity. A long time ago, I had a Fiber Images hood custom made where there was no undertray like that. It was just the support around the edges and the middle was only the carbon. If you pushed down in the middle, it would flex some. Other than that, it was fine. No issues with anything while driving.
It is weird to see your hood twist and flex when opening and closing, so make sure you can live with that before cutting it off. Can you just trim the part that's rubbing? |

I think it's just there for torsional rigidity. So it's not attached to the skin in the middle, but it still keeps the overall hood from flexing. But cutting just the part that is rubbing won't impact anything.

cutting it out now, it is weird it rubs on only 1 side, probably not made perfect (undertray).
