You cant really compare the two. the re-01r will be far more superior in performance and the generals will suck compared to them. 2 completely different tires. Ive had generals before and they dont have very good dry grip.

the bridgestone is good enough for the track and the generals would be awful.

Dont let it. they are great tires just not for ultra high performance. they might be the best tires for the money and they are incredible in the rain. They also look real good. Its just the dry grip isnt great. otherwise its a great tire.

Since you are the intelligent one, please explain the difference. Let me ask you this, if I knew the difference, why would I take the time to ask this question???? I don't know much about tires, therefore, I asked this question. Seems like a lot of guys are going to the General Exclaims. If the RE-01R are not worth the extra money, so be it. Thanks for the comments everyone, I appreciate that.

I believe that a tire is one of the most important parts of a car. Hell, it's the only part that of the car that contacts the road.
The two models that you mentioned are at completely different ends of the spectrum, with the Exclaim positioned at the entry level, while the RE01R is one of the better one in the market. Between the two, you will find that RE01R offers superior traction (dry and wet), less road noise (humming at speeds), and greater comfort. Treadwear (or treadlife) may be the only quality one may find equal between the two. Obviously, the General has the price advantage, but I think a good tire is a worthy investment. |

I'm not sure if you could really compare these two tires since they are at very different price points and performance levels. Once is good for the price, and the other is one of the stickiest street tires that you can buy, but comes at the cost of a much higher price and much lower treadwear. Why not get a tire in between? I don't see the need for Re01r's unless you plan to do some track days or something, but that's just my opinion.

I have the fk452's and they have a very stiff sidewall. Very responsive and a overall great handling tire. Only downside is the 265's run very thin for some reason.

I have generals on my 335 and the RE-O1Rs on my M3. Thats the difference how how the tires should be used.
Expect a harsh ride(think RFT) and no usage below 40 degrees with the Bridgestones.

some members are mentionning a tire in between.. one person recommended Falkens.. any other brand / tire model that offers a good balance between grip and long treadwear? i'm in the market to throw away my RFTs and get traditional tires. my e46 had Falkens but I've always been a fan of Continentals.. am I retarded ?

I had them on my A4 and really liked them. I was in my own world apparently since everyone else hated them. I thought they lasted pretty well and worked good in the dry and wet. Dont bother using them in 40 and below also.
I think the thing people have to decide on is how they are using the tires and let us know that. Picking tires isnt just a "ohh the tread is cool on that tire" type deal. You want to get the best application for your use. Its pointless to get race tires if youre just goint back and forth to work. Also pointless to get Generals if youre going to the track every other weekend.

Oh my. Wow. This is actually a question?
If it was "PS2 vs RE-01R" I could understand. "Advan vs RE-01R." Maybe. But General UHP vs Bridgestone RE-01R? Why not 318ti vs Procede equipped 335i? Sure... they're both BMWs... but that doesn't mean you're comparing "like-kind" product. The RE-01R is Bridgestone's highest specific compound for street/track use. Its performance level exceeds that of all other tires with the exception of DOT approved racing tires. Upon its initial review by Tirerack, a new category was created specifically to accommodate the unique level of performance this new product represents. The Michelin PS2 doesn't even come close. I've been to track events and run against E46 M3s that were DOT race tire equipped... and by virtue of my car's performance aided by the RE-01R succeeded in converting several slick drivers to the Bridgestone product. The shoulder block on the RE-01R is more than twice the width of a "regular" product, earning the tire the descriptive "slicks for the street." There literally is nothing else like the RE-01R. Then there's the General UHP. It is ranked three tiers lower by tirerack with respect to performance envelope. It is an economical low aspect ratio tire. Period. There has been a lot said on the RE-01R on these boards... if you want more information re-stated, please let me know... but proper board etiquette suggests you use the search function before asking for old information to be restated. Hope this info helps... -Daniel P.S., Attached are some photos of my car equipped with Bridgestone RE-01R tires mounted on Morr Alloy VS7 rims. F: 245/35, R: 275/30. Yes, I know the rims are dirty... it was an impromptu set of photos... but as you can see... they fit perfectly. And remember, this is well below stock ride height as my car is equipped with KW v3s. |
