50k service
Hi,
Car is at the BMW dealership geting 50k service done, nothing special, oil change and my SA said he will change the spark plugs free of charge, told me to consider intake valve claning (chemical treatment for $300). I would rather do walnut blasting but they dont do it and i cant find anyone that does it here in AZ, so should i do it or not? also anything else i should make them change while they changing plugs? coil packs? anything else im missing? Thanks Last edited by 335twins; 09-18-2012 at 08:59 AM.. |

BMW considers all the other fluids to be "lifetime", but BMW's interpretation of the word is different from most.
I did a coolant flush, switched to about 20% coolant, 5% Mocool, and 75% distilled. I would also flush all the other fluids - transmission, diff, and brake fluid, but BMW dealers typically do not/will not do that. The Condition Based Service times brake fluid flushes at 2 years, IIRC. Many 335s have CBS count down for cabin filter, spark plugs, and other items, while many others (newer ones, I believe) do not. If your valves have never been cleaned, they're definitely due at 50k for a walnut blasting. The chemical cleaners will probably not even scratch the surface. Mine were massively caked at 47k miles. You may have to pay out of pocket for that or DIY.

Ask in your regional forum or start calling indy shops. Don't waste your money on a dealer chem cleaning; get the ports/valves walnut shell blasted. You're overdue for plugs. As mentioned above, replace ALL fluids if you plan to keep the car past 100k.

Agreed, i just cant find anyone locally that does it, will post in regional forum.
Got a call from the dealer, they will replace the following (free of charge): 1- oil change 2- oil gasket - its started to leak a little bit 3- spark plugs so for fluids, i should make them do the following: 1- Tranny fluid 2- diff fluid 3- break fluid i hope its not arm and a liver for the fluid to be changed. |

CHapman BMW off the i-10 quoted me $800ish for walnut blasting here in phoenix. A local indy shop quoted me $350+ gaskets for chemical cleaning (I assume they scrub the valves like Ive seen in the DIY guides here, so its just as effective as walnut blasting)

Yeah, I would skip any chemical clean for the intake valves. Walnut blasting is required. You could find a local shop @ http://www.bgfindashop.com/bgservices/fuelair.htm.
Here is a local Chicago link for before and after pics: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=717787
