Exclamation Help! Am I getting a good deal on this '09 CPO 328i?!

hey guys,

i posted this up on the new/preowned section but havent gotten any responses and i need to make up my mind before e.o.b. and need help!

i'm currently negotiating the price on a CPO 2009 328i coupe, 39,745 miles, 6spd, black on black, premium, sport, heated seats, etc. I got them down to 27k minus $1,500 i'd be getting cash back as part of BMW's CPO event, which ends today. Total would be $25,500. Out the door including financing would be $28,606. Does that seem like a good deal?

The only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger is the high-ish mileage. Since these cars seem to be rock solid, i figure most of the repairs would come in the back end of owning it and not within the next two years so the CPO would go to waste. Also, i'm planning on doing an active autowerks flash so the CPO would be void anyways. Is it likely that i would be able to find a similarly equipped non cpo '09+ with 25-30k miles for around the same price? i was thinking on waiting till the '10 leases start trickling in but fear that they may be priced a little out of my range ($29K+ o.t.d.)

Only been searching for about a month so i'm not sure if i'd be able to find a better deal. What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance!

Usually the CPO comes with a new 4 year/50k warranty. Did you KBB or get an Autotrader quote? My 2011 is worth 27k now after my accident, before then it broke about even with my remaining pay-off quote. I think it's pretty decently priced for a vehicle just under 40k.

reliability.

i considered the 335 for a while but, after reading through several threads that discuss reliability issues, it turned me off from wanting one.

i think they've pretty much gotten all the problems worked out with the 08,09 335i...and if you're getting a CPO it wont matter cause all that maintenance will be covered so you arent losing money...HPFP and every once and a while waste gate rattle...of course im biased because i have a 335i but again most problems are covered either by your CPO or recall....just make the step

Looking at Edmunds and you're getting a pretty fair price (basically private party value for a CPO). Best case scenario is that you get it for another $1k off, which depending on your amortization schedule is maybe $20-$25 a month. If it's the car you want (i.e. features/colors you want) you should pull the trigger.

i'm gonna pass on this deal. i just cant get over the high mileage. i'm sure i'll be able to find a non cpo with lower miles for around the same price...eventually.

id rather get a 335i and if it's CPO that wouldn't be a problem. they will cover for all the powertrain warranty until 100kmiles. 335>328 all day

Get a 335i, the main problems being the hpfp injectors, wastegate ratte are all covered under seperate warranties and have all been fixed with new updated parts. You will regret getting a 328 and losing out on the same car with more power

In all honesty that's a fair price, miles on the high side but I'm sure they would negotiate with you even a little. Although I'm still surprised about how good a deal I got on my car after reading this. In June I bought my 2008 328i e92 from South Bay with ever option except iDrive/nav, for roughly around $32000 out the door and it only had 500 miles on it. Don't let all the 335 drivers sway you. Sure lack of power got to me at first and yes you get a warranty from the dealership but I didn't want the headache of knowing that sooner or later my car would have to go in for a HPFP or wastegate repair. Besides that I just wanted a nice reliable car that met my needs and got my family around. My car is still running strong and has never been in the shop other than maintenance and small things like bulbs being out. It's all about where your priorities are I suppose. Anyways OP good luck with your decision making!

Like everyone else says----> go with the 335i. Mine's an 07 and with 60k miles and 0 problems so far. I just change the oil every 8-9k and keep on rolling.

yea, i really wanted a 335 at first but the more i read about the problems they have the more i got turned off on them. I'll be using this car as my daily driver and i drive about 15k miles a year so reliability is at the top of my priority list. I'm coming from a 350Z and although i LOVE being able to impose my will on 95% of the cars on the highway, i really dont get to take advantage of all those ponies seeing as how i live and work in the SoCal area where traffic is nightmare almost any day of the week.

Yeah I gotcha there's always time down the road to upgrade. I myself am just waiting for an M3 to come along that I like. Either way you go I suppose you'll at least get your BMW feet wet lol.

yea, I'm planning on getting the Active Autowerks flash along with a stage 3 manifold which, according to what i've read on these boards, should get me to about 260ish HP which will help bridge the gap a little more. I figure in the long run I'll be saving at least $5k upfront by going with a 328 and then a few more bucks in the back-end since i'm planning on keeping this car until it dies. Not having to worry about replacing turbos past 100k is well worth sacrificing a few HP and having some peace of mind.

Should listen to what everyone is telling you and just get the 335I, it's a huge difference.

Ended up finding an 09 non-CPO with similar specs minus the Premium Package. Car has 17k miles on it and i got it for almost the exact same price as i would have gotten the original car for. Very happy i waited! looking forward to taking deliver of it on Saturday!
