Should I pay the CPO deductible twice in 2 weeks for the same complaint?

Issue was the car was idling rough and backfiring while driving in second and third gear.

First time they replaced all spark plugs (under maintenance), replaced 3 coils, and replaced HPFP. This helped the backfiring a bit, but car was still running rough.

Brought it back at next available appointment time two weeks later. They determined it needed a carbon cleaning of the intake and fuel injectors were either cleaned or replaced.

Should I pay the deductible again or try to get it waived? I know it's a small amount, but to me it's about the principal. Anyone have a similar experience where they got it waived?

No, you shouldn't pay it again, the issue was related to the same issue you initially brought the car in for.

Dude - how this even up for debate? Do not pay.... I would be insulted if they asked me to pay.

Are they covering the carbon blast? That's usually not something covered under warranty and costs upwards of $600 or so to perform. Especially if you're under CPO warranty as opposed to factory's 4yr/50k.

Thanks for the responses. The SA made it sound like they were going to charge me, but they didn't try to when I went in.

This time they replaced all 6 injectors and carbon blasted the intake. They covered both under the cpo warranty. I would definitely push it up to BMW NA if a dealership tries to deny the carbon blasting based on my experience.

From what I've read on here, the dealer most likely covered the plugs and carbon blasting under your ext maint contract and coils and injectors under CPO, correct?

That is possible, but the way they wrote it up on the invoice suggests that it was covered under the warranty, not the extended maintenance.

I say this because they lumped the injector replacement and the carbon blasting together on one line item.

Wow..they typically won't cover for the carbon blasts..and if they do they definitely do it's under factory warranty or when it's authorized by PuMA or TC.

The SA did mention that the shop foreman was getting a "regional engineer" involved, but it didn't take much pushing on my end to get it there.

I believe there is a SIB i read about that goes over this exact same process.

Step #1) Replace spark plugs/coils
Step #2) Replace DME/ECU (probably bad resistors on injector drivers)
Step #3) Replace fuel injectors

Carbon blasting is icing on the cake... even tho I don't think you should be paying for these things even outside of warrenty... you are getting a heck of deal on work being done at $50 a pop!

Carbon blasting/walnut blasting also entails getting new gaskets as well. I wouldn't complain about it and just enjoy all the great work and free loaner you should be getting. Just think about it... you have a loaner car for $50 a visit??!!!
