Weight savings of 40+ lbs for your E9x

For those interested in a light weight Braille battery and mounting plate set-up that will be a very easy bolt-in to your E36/38/39/46/90 chassis please send us a PM.

Mounting plate will be a light weight aluminum, which will fit with either of the 11, 15 or 21 lbs Braille light weight battery. Weight savings is as much as 41 lbs when compared to a stock size BMW battery.

We would like to get an idea how many we should produce.

The price for the hold down kit is $85.

As for the battery, there are a few choices:

SKU: B3121
Weight: 21 lbs

At 21 pounds the Braille B3121 offers over 1300 pulse cranking amps with 550 cold cranking amps, 31 amp/HR reserve capcity, but still weighs 50% less than its closest competitor. Perfect for Audio Systems, Extreme Motors, and Premium Luxury Vehicles! More details...
Price: $179.99

or

SKU: B2015
Weight: 15 lbs

The Spec B2015 is also perfect for daily street use, even in colder climates. Braille developed the B2015 to excel at racing and to easily power street vehicles equipped with A/C, stereos and power accessories. 1067 pulse cranking amps, 425 cold cranking amps and 20amp/HR reserve capacity. More details...
Price: $159.99

or

SKU: B14115
Weight: 11 lbs 8 ozs

The battery that started the revolution – The B14115 is the most popular lightweight automotive specific battery on the market today! With a weight of only 11.5 pounds and plenty of power to start V-8 engines, see why racers and car designers demand this battery. More details...
Price: $149.99

If you choose to use the Carbon Fiber batteries, prices are $70-$80 more per battery.

May want one for the E36. How do they hold a charge if you don't start the car for a month? How do they differ from the Odyssey?

We have been testing the 11.5, 15 and the 21 lb batteries. No issues with starting so far.

With extented storage a trickle charger is recommended with any battery.

Braille had more selection for our application and all testing had been done with the Braille.

The Braille batteries are plenty strong. I never had a problem starting my Elise. The specs on the battery (11.5 lb) were actually better than OEM. Not sure about vs the BMW OEM one. A tender is definitely needed if not a daily driver as it will not start the car after a little over a week or so.

Just found my registration card for the battery. It tested out at 12.85V and 598 cranking amps before it left the factory. It's a great product.

I frequently leave the race car unstarted for 4-6 week periods and recently had the car sit for over 5 months on a two year old BMW battery and it started right up!

Maybe okay with the Braille 21 lb, but not with the 11.5 lb. Then again, there is only one way to find out!

There aren't that many modules on the E36, so electrical draw is much less then the current E9x cars.

+1 on this, Harold. Very interested in seeing what you guys can do. I knew about Braille from involvement in the VW/Audi community. I'd like the 21lb standard version - will you guys do a bundle with the battery & mounting kit?

What we are thinking is selling the mounting kit and battery together. Although the cnc process is great, but there can still be some slight size variations in the batteries, so the battery will most likely be sold mounted to eliminate any fitment issues.
