i too had the problem with the ashtray lid not closing after wrapping the CF. my solution was to place 2 thin washers at the two top screw holes (there are four that mounts the ashtray unit to the center console. it doesn't sit completely flush with the center console, but it's not that noticeable.

I know I am bringing this back from the dead, but I am stuck with taking the ashtray apart. I got it out of the console easy but I can't get the damn thing separated. I can get the hinges off somewhat, but it wont come out. And it looks like the entire assembly comes apart but I cant find any other tabs other than 3 slits on the bottom. I push those in and it tries to come apart but there is something else I am missing. Is there another set of tabs that makes this come apart?

Ok, nevermind. I pretty much broke it off and figured out that at this point, I have to glue it back. Good thing is that it broke off clean and it should go on easy lmao

Gonna try this next week unless i find a brushed ally non idrive centre trim as i got a full set with some leather seats i'm fitting, but the ally centre trim has the idrive cut out but my car isn't idrive.
