This is exactly what most people do with coilovers, set and forget. But the kicker is you get to pick that "perfect" height vs the pre set height from the springs. But the "up and down" factor does have some benefits if you're in a "winter weather" area, personally I raise my car for the winter then lower it back down in the summer, still doesn't help my front lip from taking on damage in the winter but the extra ground clearance helps when the snow gets deep.

You do make valid points. I do live in a winter weather area (Montreal) and living here during the winter comes with the fact that SALT is something the city dumps copious amounts of during the winter.

What are your thoughts on a coilover kit that isn't stainless steel? Inox, galvanized and other zinc treated metals only inhibit the growth of rust. That could play a major factor when doing the "up and down" thing.

steve a heavy dose of grease on the bodies and adjusters any time you pull the wheels (or clean the car in the winter) helps protect the bodies, I have a few guys here at the office that use that trick and their budget coilovers aren't the prettiest but they are still able to adjust the collars each season. Even coated bodies have tendency to hate the slaty winter months, so every little protection step helps.
