Adding a little more information...

The car plate indicates the car was owned by someone working of a dealership.

The speed limit of the road was 100km/h. The car hit two trees. By the looks of things. the car was moving well in excess of 100km/h and based on the report I had, there was no indication yet if alcohol was involved. (The police cannot even determine who was driving.) Someone else on another website calculated that since the boy was thrown 40meters the car was travelling 72km/h if you assume that there were absolutely no obstructions slowing him down before ejection. (e.g.seat belt, front seat, window, etc etc.) Obviously, there would have been obstructions, so that indicates a huge amount of speed involved in this crash.

Cars and fixed objects like trees....just an unbelievable amount of energy and damage sustained by one of the best engineered and safe cars on the road today...and all that was nothing against those trees.

My right foot is lighter today.

I have lost two, in two separate wrecks. Things like trees don't give, ever. I feel for their families during this time of grief, I understand how they all feel. Genuinely horrible...

i would expect to see some kind of blood splatter or something but i'm guessing they likely got thrown from the vehicle at some point before the final stopping point...

RIP for those in the vehicle. Life's way too short, can't enjoy something without knowing something can happen to you just like that.

Not much experience with this kind of thing on these forums apparently. Which is, of curse, a good thing.

The car crashed into a tree, as the article states. When a car crashes into a tree, having the car ripped into shreds is a frequent outcome even at absolutely unremarkable speeds. I.e. nothing in these pictures suggests any excessive speed at all. I'd say that what I see in this pictures can easily happen after loss of control, skid and collision with a tree at around 50mph.

When one sees it for the first time, it is actually very hard to believe that so much damage can be inflicted by a flimsy-looking tree even at completely ordinary everyday commuting speed. But that's just the way it is. Trees are like that. A standard street lightpole is also a very dangerous thing, but it has nothing on a tree.
